Emojis on Mac

In addition to use the ":" character for forum emojis, the system emojis on the Mac are accessible by typing a word such as "smile" and then press fn-E to get a list of emojis to pick from. Double click on the emoji you want from the list.

Spoilers (Details hidden)

To put spoilers under a cut or for lengthy posts where people may not want to see all the details unless they're interested, highlight the text you want to be hidden and then click this button:

You'll get a "Details" cut like this for multiple paragraphs:

Or a clickable black box like this for text within a single paragraph.

Update: I figured out how the code differentiates a black box vs Details cut. The first example below results in a Details cut and the second example will display a black box. So you can just remove the two trailing "!<" characters if you want to get "Details".

Page Divider

The syntax for inserting a page divider is "***". The result looks like this:

This is very helpful, Twocats.

Any tips for dealing with the notifications? Is there a way to clear individual ones? I was kind of expecting that some would be automatically cleared when I viewed the post, but this doesn’t seem to happen. I now have a long notification list, and I’m kind of afraid to clear the whole thing.

Sgisela hmmmm it looks like they get cleared when I click on them, but there's no swipe or other option. I just disabled being notified of likes for my account as I think it'll keep the notifications less cluttered. But it doesn't answer your question.

@navindra can you see if there's a plugin or option to swipe away individual notifications?

navindra yes, but I can't activate it on my phone! If I hold down my finger it prompts me to open in new tab. If I tap on it, it goes to the post.

navindra I'm on Android using the Brave browser, a quick touch dismisses the notification but there's no checkmark.

@Sgisela try it out and see what works for you? And then I can add a new tip and if it's ok with you all we can remove all these discussion posts!

@Sgisela quick tap on the right side is working very well for me to remove individual notifications. I did a bunch today!

Any tips on how to embed a YouTube video? I put an embeded video in the recordings section, and it works, but I can't seem to figure out how to hide the embed html.

@PianoMonk I think the forum software is smart enough that you just need to post the link itself. I did so earlier and was surprised that it came out fully embedded 🙂

Sophia Ah, yes. That worked a treat! Thanks for that.

            Find Private Messages

Go to the home page, and at the top of if you click on Forums there is a drop down, and you can find Private Messages there.

On my laptop (Firefox browser), private discussions can be found along the top, three options to the left of the "start a discussion" button:

On my phone (thankfully, I found it!) there are two triangles to the right of where it says "forums" at the very top, and that's where private discussions shows up.

You gotta love how easy it is to post photos!!! That allow makes the move here worth it! 😃

            Dismissing A Single Notification

On mobile (Android), a quick but firm tap on the very right side of the notification will clear it without taking you to the post.

It sounds like on iOS, a quick tap on the right will show a check box, which if tapped again will clear the notification.

If anyone has other solutions or experiences on different interfaces, let me know and I'll update this post.

            navindra stickied the discussion .
