Help with piano placement
Ithaca IIRC you don't like to move your piano at all yourself
You have a good memory. I definitely won't want to move it myself once it's in place. I'd be too scary of ripping the carpet or worse. Is your piano on caster cups?
Cheee, the indent of the bay window is only 4' but the carpet is 8', so where you see the curtains in the photo is as far as it can go. But if you draw a line in the doorway opening, that corner doesn't touch it at all, I think it doesn't look too bad.
cheeeeee How about angling the piano a little bit less (i.e., the left tip of the piano a bit away from the wall)? That may create a greater opening.
A greater opening where? I'm not sure I understand. I think I'm going to have the straight edge of the piano parallel to the opening, for acoustic reasons, but I suppose if it wasn't exactly parallel , that would create a little more room when you walk in... But I also want to make sure I can keep all four legs of the bench on the rug, so it will be a tricky placement.
I think the design youāve come up with looks spot on - I say go for it! Canāt wait to see photos!
shawarma_bees Canāt wait to see photos!
Thank you Shawarma! I can't wait to move!!!
Thanks David! Iām pretty sure this is the placement Iāll go with. An added bonus to this placement, that you canāt see from the mock-up, is that you will be able to see the curve of the piano from the living room, and sitting like this, I will be able to see all the way to the back of the living room as well.
Iām going to ask the movers to be ready to try a few placements but this is he one Iāll start with and if it works, then thatās what Iāll go with.
Iām just getting to this thread. I havenāt read all the posts but I like either the one thatās just above this or
I donāt know how theyād differ acoustically, which I know is your main concern. But aesthetically, I like that in both, the piano opens into the room. I might make the decision on how much you want to be able to look out the windows while youāre playing. If the view is really nice, then I might go for the one where you can look toward the window. If the view is not great, I think Iād go for the one where youāre looking into the room.

We moved today and the piano is in! Yay!! I only played it just enough to check all the keys so I donāt have a sense of how it sounds yet. Weāre exhausted from moving, so Iāll check it out tmrw. But here are some photos.

It looks great! I think you picked a great final placement and hopefully it sounds good in that spot!!
ShiroKuro Thanks David! Iām pretty sure this is the placement Iāll go with. I think this is the best placement. You have an angle for acoustics, if you have someone in the room (say doing a duet) they have a place to stand near the piano. If you have the curtains open at all, you will have the light at your back and not be looking into it.
Beautiful setup! Congratulations!
