raagamuffin Regarding how long I spent learning this piece.... It's impossible to say, because I've played other versions of the Canon and each of those experiences most surely is a huge advantage when I then attempt a different version. I h ave played two different arrangements in Cmaj (the George Winston on and the Brian Crain one, which I performed with a violinist). The Crain one is definitely easier than this one or the Winston arrangement. I've also played other arrangements that are more traditional (note-wise) and are in D major.
For this arrangement, I actually made the arrangement years ago, but although the first half was easy, I couldn't play the end part (where there are continuous 16th notes in both hands). So I had put it aside. Literally for many years.
Then I returned to it this semester, and I've been working on it off and on since then. Sometimes I would let it go for a week before coming back to it. It's also 10 pages long, so even though there's a lot of repetition (and the LH is very straightforward throughout), it's still a lot of music to learn.
So I guess we could call this recording the product of three months of slightly haphazard practicing. 😃
I'm hoping to play it at some holiday gatherings, so I'll continue my haphazard practice of it and hopefully I can do a performance with fewer mistakes. 🙂
