rach3master absolutely gorgeous! I love the momentum and the peaks and valleys of the piece and how your playing captures that so exquisitely. The piece is definitely emotionally heavy, but your playing brings that out in the best of ways, listening to you reminds me of the way really good tiramisu is so rich and heavy, you have to enjoy it carefully and Intentionally….

I believe I have listened to everyone! Thank you all, what a lovely way to start the weekend. I’m very pleased to be part of such a talented group of pianists! And I wouldn’t have made this recording had I not been trying to make it in time for the recital, and as always, when I made the recording, I thought it was horrible, but now that I listen again, I’m quite proud of the work I’ve done.

That is so motivating, and I’m truly grateful for this wonderful community!

Sophia Thank you and your comments are extremely insightful to me. I need to figure out this timing thing better for sure, it's the trickiest aspect for me, and nothing really comes that easy. I like how you describe this as breath or pregnant pause, as I can definitely visualize that while playing.

rsl12 Thanks! I was trying to do S-L-S, going against Alfred's suggestion of L-S-L, just to make it my own personal variation, but my sense of timing needs work for sure.

navindra Great touch! This sounds like the kind of arrangement that suffers from being notated in strict rhythms - if you wanted to make it really shine I would throw some syncopation in there and play the melody as if you were singing it.

WieWaldi No need to put your choice of piece down, one person's easy is another's difficult months-long project. Great job with the blues feeling! I think the climactic bits from 1:10 onwards could use some more dynamic range, lest the piece sound like it's at the same volume throughout.

ShiroKuro That was beautiful! I'd never heard this piece before but to me it is no surprise that it was the soundtrack to a film, like other pieces by the same composer.
I love the fact that your first attempt at this piece was 18 years ago and now you finally mastered this piece on your third attempt - it gives beginners like me hope that if we persist we'll get there eventually! Your playing flowed nicely, you can be proud of your rendition of this lovely piece.
The title works if you imagine watching a firework display from a distance, so you have the visual explosion of colours without the violent noise. Or you could imagine a time lapse film showing flowers blooming - that sort of imagery might match the piece well.
PS: Nice wrist band... there's a trend starting here. Maybe I need something like that to improve my playing... along with 25 years' of practice! 😀

I honestly don't know if this composer has other works out there. I chose to learn it because I was (still am) working on Passacaglia and it's similar and I thought it could be a good springboard for the more advanced piece.

Player1 Dennis Alexander has plenty of works published by Alfred Music. I have a copy of his 24 Character Preludes, a volume of Toccatas and a volume of Nocturnes, and there are dozens more sheet music books out there ranging from beginner to advanced.
