I want to push this thread again, it is less than one month to the November recital opening. This are the stats from August quarterly:

28 PianoWorld total submissions
29 Piano|Tell total submissions
11 equal submissions in both forums
3 performers submitted different pieces in both forums
(46 different submissions in both forums)

I still think, it would be a good idea to run a different schedule than PianoWorld, because there are only 11(!) performers that did post the same piece in both forums. Actually many of us expected to see way more of these. And to submit the same in both forums can feel awkward.

What do you think, should we keep running our schedule together with PianoWorld, or should we offset?
My take (for now) is to leave it as it is for 2024, get new stats and re-think again.

    WieWaldi I am taking it one recital at a time without thinking about what may happen next year. Just hoping that I have something ready for November. I have a few recordings from past years I could submit if necessary.

          I would prefer separate schedules for PW and PT recitals. PW doesn't have recitals in March, June, September, or December so let's have PT recitals during those months.

          A December recital would be fun. If we have one I will submit a holiday piece!

          The current options:

          • Same Quarterly schedule as PW.

          • Quadrimester schedule: December, April, August.
          • Event or Holiday based schedule.

          The PW Quarterly schedule is proven and allows participants to submit to both. This seems to have worked out, since we got 11 shared submissions. For folks who submitted pieces to both recitals, did the schedule help you, and would you continue to do so?

          A new Quarterly schedule would align with at least one major holiday season. If ever's the time to switch, it would be to take advantage of the (optional) December fun. However, between PW and PT that would be 8 recitals, which seems a little excessive for anyone participating in both sites.

          A quadrimester schedule allows for a more leisurely pace... which makes it easier for someone like me, but might rob others who are more productive.

          Event or Holiday based schedule could be fun but might be unevenly spaced, which might complicate participation.

          Out of all these options, only one is truly proven and has withstood the test of time. Changing the schedule is risky, what would be the motivating factors to change and how would we mitigate the risk of losing potential participants? (For example, we might open for submissions at the same time as PW but close a month later.)

          Also, is now the right time to change strategies? We've had a grand total of 1 recital so far and we don't exactly have a rhythm going or a sense of how participation will continue.

          The reality is that PT is still more in a support role to PW... there is no significant independent influx of participants.

            Wouldn't it be as well the reason to schedule PT recitals differently from PW, so as to gain more autonomy and maybe attract that independent influx? What do you think?

                  Do you have already specific 3 months in mind for the trimester?
                  If we space them equally with a 4 month distance, one overlaps with PW-quarterly, one with PW-themed and one won't overlap.

                  I think this could be very confusing. Especially as this forum is not only used in the USA, but all over the world with different holidays and events.

                  On the other hand we have 18 submissions solely submitted here. 3 of them with different pieces in both forums and I am quite sure for those productive people, a different schedule would be a welcome bonus.

                  For 2024, I suggest to stick with the PW schedule and look at the stats again, and if we want to do a poll, wait for this.

                        Gooseberry Yes, for option 3 I meant quadrimester or 3 recitals in a year... with the next one being in December. Corrected the original post now.

                        Where would the independent influx come from? PT is not discoverable... in fact quite a few people from PW joined for the recital.

                            navindra I submitted a different piece to both recitals, and planned to do that ahead of time. My PT piece was ready enough a little earlier and recorded earlier than my PW piece. I plan to continue submitting to recitals in both forums, regardless of what schedule PT is on. I would have a small preference for them not to be in the same month, but I also don't think it would affect my participation in either place, so I'm not sure my preference counts for much! E.g. if they are in the same month, it might be I record something in the month before for one of them, if I don't think I would have two things ready enough in the same month. So it really doesn't have much impact for me, personally.

                            And I didn't realize the next one here is in November! My phone logged me out of PT and I couldn't remember my password so haven't been here for a while! Better get practicing and recording!

                                    BicBic Thanks for the feedback! Overall, I do think for the long term we should move to a new schedule but we are not yet well-placed to change it.

                                    I'm thinking we go ahead with a November recital at least to keep the rhythm going without shaking things up just yet. Eventually I think I'd like to move to a schedule where we can have a December recital.

                                    It would be great to hear overall recital meta feedback from folks if you haven't had a chance to voice your opinion already. Consider it informal polling. 🙂

                                          navindra Pleased that a PT recital will take place in November. If you would like a recital in December, perhaps next year, suggest moving the quarterlies to March, June, Sept and December. No harm in being a month later than PW.
