We can set up a different thread for cats and other pets of us piano players! Anybody know if the 'meta' area ... currently says 'anything else' is a place where we can have those threads?

The pets are so comfortable with the carers, as they know we are family!

      I have two cats. Victor, who is very musical and likes to join me at the bench. And Ebie, who understands the importance of practice and usually leaves me to it, except here where she joined me at the harp.

      Since then: Replaced piano with 2007 Yamaha C2, new bench, curtains on window, piano angled away from window, new area rug, same dog.

      Beatrix left, Marlowe right. Shelter/rescue cats, five year old siblings, blessed with extra toes on their front paws, which we like to think of as evolutionary traits, i.e thumbs. Both hate music. So, I have some nice headphones to keep them happy.

        Such pretty faces! Them not liking music is half a blessing... trust me. You'd think so too if they literally walzed through 80% of all you practice sessions 😂

          Sophia Yes, they are pretty cats. Strictly indoor cats and pretty unusual. They have never meowed, like other cats. Instead, they both make these chirps, squeaks, warbles, and something similar to the bird-like sound cheetahs make. It was years before we stopped asking each other, "Is that the cats?" when we'd here an odd sound from somewhere in the house. And, they still play like kittens; and I like that they do. Wild cheetah cubs! Keeps me from even thinking about getting a baby grand.

            PianoMonk my kitties are polydactyl too! They’ve been known to turn floor lamps off and on with their massive mitts. I’ve joked that Victor is a kitty Rachmaninoff with his span of a third.

                Cassia We just love having "special" cats. Don't you? Our cats' "thumbs" are more in line with their other toes. That's quite a mitt on Victor.

                  I cannot begin to imagine how much trouble my Gigi would get into if she had actual thumbs! 😃

                      TC3 My wife likes them, too. Me, not so much. Cats, well, they hate everything, especially her guitar playing and singing. Made for perfect cartoon material.

                          PianoMonk Fleetwood Mac is actually several different bands over the years, so I'd need to know which album the cats objected to ... 🙂
