Pallas I have accidentally posted in the Pianist corner and it felt like belching during a performance at Carnegie Hall
Truthfully, I think you got that wrong. I mean, you got it right in that is how some of those people in there make us FEEL (and that is why I stayed clear from any forum except the beginner forum). But in MY mind, mingling should be welcomed.
The only distinction should be that the PC is the place where you can to discuss piano stuff like what do you prefer, Beethoven or Brahms, that would be the place for it. Even us newbies can easily have opinions on it. And if two pros want to discuss what would be the best way to tackle the 3rd bar of Fantaisie β Impromptu - wrist wise (I'm just making those up, obviously), we can read in awe and dream about having our own informed opinion 50 years from now.
Whereas if you want to discuss, say, Alfred book 2 or would you recommend Alfred, Faber or Thompson and why? Or if you want to talk about wanting to learn to improvise, the ABF (or whatever the future name will be) would be perfect. And the pros can come in and tell us that Alfred is more chord based, Faber is a little more classical focussed and Thompson moves a little faster and is probably not the best for self learners. Or they can tell us that feeling tension is not a good thing, or whatever they feel is important to share.
That would be my ideal world and I'd participate readily in all of 'm. But my experience in PW was that some people considered themselves to be elite. They would feud over the silliest things, such as whether you should call it piano bench or stool. And then argue about it, and argue, and argue... and argue. And when such people would venture into the beginner's forum, they would invariably succeed in making you feel terrible for having chosen the wrong method, going about it the wrong way, accuse you of having no patience to learn properly, tell you off for not having a teacher or switching to another teacher, playing the wrong type of music or styling your hair wrong.
Sorry I'm writing a tome here π But my point is, right now this forum has the perfect opportunity not to fall into that trap. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED most of the PW discussions and almost all of the people in there, but... well. Right now this place just feels BETTER. So far I love ALL the discussions and ALL the people - not that I don't realize that some of those things can and will happen at some point, but please don't let that be soon π
