Today I finished my first 3-day block with three short pieces. Tomorrow, I'll have another 3 on the go in various stages of development. I have been working with 3-5 Alfred pieces from the beginning of my study, but this will be the first time I put Set A down for a day and pick up a Set B. I have been doing 3 to 5 twenty-minute sessions a day for a few weeks now, so on overlapping days, I'll have to split the sessions between sets.
Most of these pieces are easy 1-page pieces, and there will only be one that I haven't worked on at all. I'm not starting 6 new pieces or anything, and I will continue to drop a completed one and pick up a new one as I go along. I'm enjoying this quite a lot! Tomorrow I get to really dig into the Alfred 1 arrangement of The Entertainer, which I've been looking forward to since I started!
Set A: Greensleeves (keeping it memorized), Scarborough Fair (almost memorized, almost ready to record), and Raisins and Almonds (still have 2 rough patches to iron out).
Set B: He's Got the Whole World in His Hands (50%), The Entertainer (10%), and Amazing Grace (I haven't played a single note yet).
Because these pieces are short, I'm hoping this approach will approximate adding one new long piece (Set B is about 6 very easy pages, easy to most of you, not to me!). I intend to keep a close eye on things and add or subtract to maintain progress. I can already report that taking a long break on Scarborough Fair has been shockingly effective. I found it a VERY hard piece, but after a 9-day break, it just came right together in a few days. I'm excited about this!
