Gyaaaa!!!

I made a few more recordings this evening. The ones that have nice dynamics, musicality, shaping, and good tempo also all have a fatal flaw somewhere. The one with no distracting mistakes is just a little bit slow and a little too cautious.

The recording I made the other day might actually be better than the best take from today, but it has one of those distracting mistakes.

Ugh. Tomorrow I have to prep for a trip and the talk I’m giving.

I may have to go with one of the two that I have now. Shoot. Which one to pick…

I am relocating since I'm now retired and don't need to be maintaining this house any longer. 1600 Sq ft is too big for 1 person and 4 cats. The bad thing is that it's going to take several more months before I can move because I have to get the house ready to be sold. That means clearing it out and moving stuff into storage until there's somewhere new to put it as well as refreshing/painting/etc.

I probably won't be able to play again until next year sometime.

Player1 You have my sympathy! Getting a house ready to sell is stressful, moving is stressful, having stuff in storage is stressful, it's like a triple whammy!

I moved early last year. It took me about 11 months from putting my old house on the market to moving into the 'new' place.
One of the most stressful things I've ever done!

I picked the one without distracting mistakes. It's just a tad slower, but I think it's ok. The one with the distracting mistakes was too..... wait for it..... distracting.

Player1 It's a shame to miss out on playing piano for weeks/months on end, especially now that you're retired, but from what you say I think the move will be a good thing for you.

One thing struck me - as you plan to buy a smaller property it might be a good idea to declutter and let go of possessions completely, rather than placing them in storage. I have been gradually decluttering our home for a few years now and it has been a very liberating experience. I feel better now that we have less stuff - it's easier to keep the home clean and tidy.

All that said, do you think you'd benefit from getting a small keyboard to enable you to enjoy your hobby until you move? They don't cost much and you could always sell it or give it away once you have your piano back.

The decluttering has been going on for awhile but I got serious last winter. Lots of things are being donated and I usually put stuff out at the curb for the things none of the charity orgs want. Office furniture, steel filing cabinets, etc.

Some of what I'm keeping is better off in storage while the house is cleared and refreshed. That way there's only a low possibility of them being damaged or destroyed. I have some antique rugs and paintings stored along with furniture and my collection of antique mantle and long case clocks and a few hand-made glass treasures. My piano is among those things, as is my violin. My holiday china will be joining them in the near future.

Player1 That sounds like quite a task. Antique clocks are beautiful but they require ongoing maintenance to keep them working well. Maybe you could downsize your collection and just keep the ones that you cherish the most? Same goes for all the other antiques/glass and china - ask yourself do you really need "holiday china"?

I'm something of a born again minimalist so I can get carried away when it comes to this subject, but I'll stop now. Good luck P1.

Well, if someone is going to do dishes, then they'll need something to wash so...

In reality I cook a fancy dinner on Sunday evenings. I make upscale "date night" stuff, and I like to serve it on various dishes instead of the same plain old stoneware all the time.

That's seared duck breast in a blackberry and red wine reduction with duck fat fried potatoes and julienned vegetables. Dessert is a red wine poached pear with a dollop of whipped cream and blackberries.

I've already pared the clocks down. I only have a dozen left and they're not going anywhere until after I'm gone.
