@Pianoanne thanks for responding!
Pianoanne have you tried listening to different recordings? Maybe find a recording with a more moderate tempo that you still enjoy to listen to
Ahh, this is a good idea! I hadn’t thought about listening to other recordings because I think I tend to be quite literal, as in, “this is the version I’m playing, this specific arrangement, so other ones aren’t relevant.” But as a way to reset my tempo expectations, this could help a lot.
Re your comment about the LH part, that’s actually not where my sloppiness comes in. My hands aren’t huge, but I do ok and I actually have better reach with my left than my right (I assume because before playing piano, I played classical guitar and the left hand has to do all those contorted chord shapes). I feel pretty comfortable with this LH part. Also I don’t want to change it at this point. LH is the same throughout, and I’ve already internalized my fingerings etc. Changing it now would definitely extend my time to completion, which I don’t want to do, both because I want to make that 9/15 recital date and also because I have other pieces I want to move on to! 😅
But! Since you mentioned it, I will pay attention to that part today and try to make sure my assessment is accurate (i.e., that the LH isn’t contributing to my difficulty)
For me it’s the RH, and the way the inner notes of the chords move, as the chords move down and then back up again. I notice the sloppiness in my RH notes, esp. in the notes the pinkie plays, which I think of as melody notes. So I think I was focusing on the pinkie notes. But the inner/middle notes of the RH arpeggios are maybe leading notes (I think, my knowledge of music theory is rubbish) and when I was practicing it yesterday, I realized I maybe need to focus on getting those notes right, because they lead to the pinkie notes.
I also I can’t decide if I want to look at my hands or not… Maybe I just have to memorize the whole Galloway section … 😬
Back to your other comment: yes to the metronome, but rather than notching up, I think I need to stay down. IOW I need to figure out how to reign in my tendency to speed up. So I’m going to play with the metronome set below 64 for a few days as another way to try to lower my internal tempo..
