@Pianoanne i just listened to your two arrangements, they’re both lovely!! The advanced one especially! And your videos are quite nice, I always love the hands plus score set up!
So, listening to your arrangement brings up a question I’m having about tempo control with my own arrangement of the canon, @Pianoanne I would be especially grateful if you could comment, and anyone else as well.
First, @Pianoanne would you say your tempo in your advanced arrangement is close to 86? I used the tap function on my metronome, but it’s kind of unreliable. Anyway, your tempo seems like it’s on the higher end, compared to common arrangements where there are strings, for example. I love your tempo and I’m thinking that’s about the tempo I’d like to play mine at….
Some of you might remember that I am playing a mash-up arrangement I made, the first half is from a pretty traditional arrangement, the second half is from the Lee Galloway arrangement (I’ll paste in some score snippets below).
Here’s the problem I’m having: the Galloway part is just a little bit hard for me and if I get up above about mm=60, I get sloppy. If I play it around mm=50 or so, it’s nice and clean. But even if I start out at a manageable tempo, I find myself speeding up through that section (probably because it’s all 16 notes, see below) and pretty soon it’s like careening down a hill in an out of control go cart!
So why not just play it slower? Because I don’t like how the rest of it sounds at mm=50. 😅 Ugh, it drags! And even if I start slow, by the middle part of the traditional section, I’ve sped up probably close to mm= 80!
So there are two parts to my question: 1) how can I reset my internal metronome for this piece to convince my body-tempo that it sounds better a little slower, and 2) what are some tricks to speed up my competence/accuracy for the Galloway 16th notes so I can get up to maybe at least mm=70-76 in that section without being totally sloppy?
Ok, here’s the opening for the traditional section (you can see that I’ve written in stuff that I’m adding, sorry how sloppy it is)

Now here’s part of the Galloway section, this is part of where I want to just fly through the music, but when I do, I get so sloppy.

Thank you in advance to @Pianoanne or anyone else who has any advice or suggestions.
