Nightowl Nope, I randomly picked this username for something when I was very young and I've been using it since then. No correlation to anything besides me liking how it sounds.

Sophia

Yeah, well, I didn't practice yesterday and today I woke up on the wrong side of the bed so I may not play today either.

The t hing is, it's not a difficult piece, I could play my way through it in an hour. I just don't have much motivation (or a good attitude) right now so don't expect much.

    Player1 don't expect much

You know what, I'll set my expectations to "nothing". That way, whatever you come up with will be a pleasant surprise ๐Ÿ™‚

Player1 Yeah, I get days like that too - sometimes everything feels like too much of an effort (except eating sugary foods - I can always seem to manage that, somehow!). There's still plenty of time, especially for someone awesome like yourself! ๐Ÿ˜€

Rob I haven't been around for a while, and didn't realise that there was to be a November recital until today.

This was me a couple of days ago. I have nothing for this one. Will there be a holiday one next month? I am working on festive pieces right now.

TLH21 As far as I know there is no official holiday recital. I plan to post some holiday cheer in Member Recordings though and I hope you do too!

Didn't like v1 of my submission so made another recording yesterday as v2.

            Sophia

This sounds a lot like you saying you wouldn't be surprised if I missed grabbing the brass ring. And we can't be having none 'o that! Not no how, no ways!!

I did manage to play yesterday and the video recorder captured the garbage I produced. Which got deleted immediately so don't ask. I'll probably try again later today. Like I said, it's not a difficult piece so I should have something presentable in the next few days.

              Nightowl

I understand. If it weren't for a batch of homemade peanut butter brownies, I probably would have been wondering who to terminate next.

All good today, I slept the clock around last night. Rain has a tendency to do that to me sometimes because we don't get much of it here.

Player1 Oh my goodness, I stand corrected. I realize the error of my ways and shall expect nothing but top notch performance instead ๐Ÿคฃ

Sophia Yeah, you'd best be careful, as P1 just admitted he has a tendency to "terminate" people who cross him. I hear he's quite lethal with that cattle prod of his! ๐Ÿค

rogerch It might be nice to have a dedicated thread of Christmas songs - maybe you could start one? (Ideally not before 1 December though... or am I being a Grinch to think that Christmas should stay in December?)

I'm fumbling my way through the piano parts of my eventual submission, but I still need some serious time to learn lyrics ... I'll post whatever I have by the 15th, but don't expect too much!

                  Enthusiastic but mediocre amateur.

Worked on a piece that is barely 2 min for 2 weeks (1 min per week) which is as much progress as I can do. For many of us even a 2 min piece is a stretch. Version 1 is usually something that isnโ€™t great so would be recording v2 & 3.

                    thepianoplayer416

I'm not sure how long my piece is, but 2 minutes would be stretching it. By a LOT!

It's 20 measures long, no repeats, at 3/4 time (flowing smoothly). I have no idea how they managed to get it to fill 2 pages.

The interesting bit is that at one time I passed this one over because it was too complicated. There's a couple of LH chords with fingers 2 & 4 that I couldn't manage to do back then. Now it's so simple.

And of course I still screw it up anyway.

My piece is very long and very complex because it's actually something I've been preparing for months for a competition I have next week. The upside is that it's very impressive when I do it well, the downside is that there's roughly 5 trillion opportunities to mess up. I did a run-through of it when I practiced today and it went good, though! I'll probably have a recording submitted within the next few days.

Nightowl thread of Christmas songs - maybe you could start one? (Ideally not before 1 December though... or am I being a Grinch to think that Christmas should stay in December?)

Thatโ€™s a good idea! Donโ€™t worry, I completely agree with โ€œnot before December 1โ€! I may not be ready by December 1 so if someone else starts the thread I will add to it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I still vote for an offset recital schedule in PianoTell. (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec)
In this case, we get indirectly a Christmas recital every year. ๐ŸŽ…

                      WieWaldi rogerch

We could delay publishing the recital by 2 weeks... and publish in December.

I'm only saying that theoretically right now because I've learned that communicating all this upfront is best and last minute changes aren't ideal, but we could still do that if there's significant support for it.

It may be worth getting at least 4 recitals behind us before switching things up.

                      General thoughts are welcome on:

                      1. How long should the submission period be? 2 weeks seems like a good starting point but if we want to welcome ABF participants, we can open 2 weeks early for a December recital.
                      2. Should the recitals be quarterly or every quadrimester? Some people have several pieces ready to go on short notice, others need more time... but I think quarterly seems a reasonable compromise.
                      3. Assuming we stick with quarterly, it seems like folks are generally favorable to (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec)? Any other proposals?

                      Any other ideas?
