WieWaldi May I ask if you use the digital with onboard speakers or with headphones?
When the digital was new (and I was living in an apartment), I used both headphones and the onboard speakers. With headphones the sound was noticeably better but still lacking, and I preferred to go w/o headphones when I didn't have to - I'm not a fan of wearing stuff on my head unless frostbite is a concern.
I was thinking of your idea, that how we feel about a sound changes as we acclimate to it. It reminded me of when I tried a Concert 8; at first I was so happy with it (I'd found all the A124s disappointing, and the R124 better but still missing the oomph I was looking for), but after a bit, I realized that although I loved the power, something about the sound left me unmoved. I suspect that it's because I grew up on a 1980s Baldwin, and then had a remarkable (and free!) random-NY-manufacturer tall upright (50? 52? inches) for several years. There's something about the sound of many old American pianos that I love, but can't put my finger on.
iternabe Iternabe, a quick thanks for starting this thread. Because of your question, I've found myself listening to how I pedal much more carefully these past few days. It's been fun.
