I worked on the Dvořák today and I've been adding a bookmark to any page that needs me to come back and give it serious attention. And then I saw that practically every page of the first movement is bookmarked 🤣 I think this system will be useful for random interleaved practice in the future and when I feel more confident with any given page I can remove the bookmark.
The good news is that the second movement is not actually that difficult and I think the third movement may not be all that bad, either, except for a bit of tricky rhythmic stuff (I got halfway through it today). My friend warned me that the fourth movement is fast, but once I'm confident with the notes, fast is likely not a problem. I hate the beginning stages of learning a huge work when it all just seems like it goes on forever, but I'm glad I give myself a huge amount of time before it needs to be ready.
My cellist friend is going to the spring program in a different group and he's been sending me lesser known piano quartets that they're considering.
I absolutely love the Suk quartet and this thrilling, passionate performance! I definitely want to play this in the future and I put it pretty high on my list.
And then there's the Dohnányi quartet that I added farther down the list. I emailed my friend and told him I liked it, and then I got to the end of the performance and it suddenly goes into chromatic octaves up and down in the piano and I think they're so ridiculous, I actually started laughing. Here's the clip right before it happens. I am so curious if other people also think it's totally silly or if it's just me 😂
