Sophia I had a wonderful relaxing break with some old friends and not a piano in sight, from August 5th to 7th. It was nice to be back on my own beautiful piano this evening.

Hi all,
I am seeking an excused absence from piano playing for August 23, 2024. We were participating in an endurance riding competition near the Spanish Peaks in La Veta, Colorado and rode our horses 130 miles in 5 days. I took my Fantom-07 keyboard along and practiced every day. However, the day of our return home, we cleaned up camp, departed in the morning, and drove all day and through the night so that the horses would be transported in cooler temperatures. I also needed to work remotely on the laptop all day long. Unfortunately there was not enough time/opportunity to practice piano that day, hence my excuse request <-:

Oh my goodness, that is the vacation I have always wanted!!!! What a GREAT excuse, I'm so jealous 😃 I have added it to the E-list @MandM - and when you come home, I definitely want to see more pictures 🙂

I was out of town visiting my new niece from 8/21 to 8/26 and there was no piano, so I didn’t play.

I got my laser eye surgery yesterday, so I played with my eyes closed. Very fun experience, focusing completely on the tactiles of the piano. And… making lots of mistakes as well!

That said, 0 days so far, of no piano. Hoping to keep it up 🙂

HeartKeys Good grief, that's very impressive! I hope your eyes heal well, you were brave to get both done at once but at least it's all done now.

HeartKeys I remeber my eye lasering very well, 15 years back now. It smelled like burned hair. And when the surgeon opened my lens lid, I felt the cold air in my eye. And then the 2nd laser phase came to action, again a smell like burned hair...
And I remeber the first time after the lasering very well: I was told to wear sunglasses to protect my eyes. Everything was a little foggy. But in focus. It felt exactly as I was wearing optical sunglasses that got foggy. And of course everything was in focus - because I was wearing glasses as always, right? And then I was wondering, how the world looks like without that foggy sunglasses. I took them off and surprise: Still foggy, much brighter but still in focus. I was so amazed, I can take of my glasses now without blurring my view.

Awwww - this was the best surgery of my entire life!

Wow, talk about dedication!!! People would not practice for a lot lesser reason 😆 Well done and I hope your eyes are much improved now! Did they actually do both eyes at once? I mean, normally they'd take one at the time so you would at least be able to see?

And yeah, both eyes were operated together. I just needed to take a long nap, and several hours with eyes closed.

Prior to leaving to the operating facility, I had set up my keyboard next to my bed, with Pianoteq software on. So I took a nap, then eyes closed went straight to the piano and started playing.

I mean, it’s way more fun than doing nothing with my eyes closed!! 🙂

Thanks-- technology has evolved significantly the last few decades with laser eye surgery. It was fairly seamless, though it felt a bit weird. Wasn't too painful, but weird.

I have not been active on the Forum recently. It’s been a horrible time for me – a time of anxiety, suffering and bereavement. Playing the piano every day, even if only for some minutes, was really helpful. But there was one week (August 4th to 10th) when I could not bring myself to sit at the piano at all, so please add it for me to the E-list.

Thank you @Sophia . I am now slowly returning to my normal activities, and planning on making a short trip for a change of scene and to see some friends. There is an upright at the place where I’m going to stay, so hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with the PACT 🙂
