Sophia, I've been willfully avoiding this thread, afraid of overcommitment. But we agreed to be accountability partners, and this is such a good idea, so I will do it! I'm focusing more on singing than piano at the moment, so even when I'm away from home, I could always practice voice. Though when I have practiced in hotel showers, neighbors have responded with bangs on the wall.
My goals for August 2025:
- I no longer cringe (much) when I listen to my piano+voice recordings, but I want to be able to say some of my recordings are "pretty good".
- get a few more blues licks (particularly New Orleans style licks) under my fingers
- learn at least one new Latin style
- Do a deep dive on a musician (possible choices: Dave McKenna, Clifford Brown, Bill Evans, Billie Taylor, Dr. John)
- Get a short classical piece to performance level (possible choices: a Bach WTC prelude, a Kapustin prelude, something from Albeniz' Iberia suite)
This list is probably too ambitious. If I can do at least three of these things, I'll be satisfied.
