Sophia I would play along with a daily challenge, because I actually do really appreciate accountability partners!!, but sometimes I go on vacation without a piano, so technically I don't play every day. I skip a total of about 18 days per year! I play every day I have access to a piano. My husband is threatening to buy me a travel piano so I can play while away from the house too, but until then I have to fess up to my non-attainment of 365/year. 🥰

The past few years I’ve been traveling around and spending more time away from home. I got 3 portable 88 keyboards of different qualities for traveling so that I wouldn’t miss a day of playing.

Even during the pandemic lockdown 3 yrs ago I was in a “quarantine” hotel practicing the Bach-Marcello Adagio.

Got enough pieces to work on my own. I prefer to work on my own schedule than being committed to something like 5 pieces a month.

Good idea to have a practice partner though. Even better if 2 people can connect through Zoom to work on pieces together.

Right, well in PW the thread accounts for "off days" like vacation, illness, etc. I still feel loyal to that pledge over there but this is my home now... I'd rather continue it here. Not sure if we need to go the whole hog with signature images etc, but if it's something more people would want - and if it doesn't ruffle feathers to copycat the concept, I'd be all for it 🙂

Sophia How about you leave the question up for a few days as fair notice to any who might want to talk about it, then if there are no objections, we start. We can come up with a different name, different parameters, or whatever needs to be done to make it ours. It's like "talent show" as a concept. It's not really copyrightable, so it's more about ameliorating any lingering discomfort over the split. 🫤 I'm getting over it, and I'm hoping everyone else is too!

I'd do it. I've been doing the MOYD at PW since 2012 and have no intention of stopping. Vacation and sick days don't count against you. Vacation days without piano are good for you; if you're sick, piano practice is worthless. Over the years, it has amazed me just how successful that that little prod of keeping up the challenge has been. [I would have inserted a kick-in-the-butt emoji here, but I can't find one.]

I haven't really thought of any specific logistics yet, but so far we've been able to edit all of our previous posts. So that won't be an issue if we choose such a system 😊

It's MOYD not MYOD. It's a reference to the phrase "master of your domain" from the Seinfeld episode The Contest.

BartK are there perhaps any updated cultural references that we can tap into? I’m afraid I don’t keep up-to-date with the latest TV trends, but maybe someone else has an idea that references something less dated… Although perhaps the consensus is that Seinfeld has now become a timeless classic!

BartK Yes, you are correct that it comes from Seinfield. But MOYD started ages and ages ago at PW's ABF, and I am pretty sure that at one point, someone wrote MYOD in the thread title accidentally, and then it just stayed that way for a few years. Probably someone fixed it after that and then it's been back to MOYD...

In any case, MOYP and MYOP are both easy to say, so I don't care either way 🙂
