Some of you may remember that we’re moving soon (from the piano placement thread). So of course, as I pack, I’m trying to get rid of some things. And I recently came across some “piano paraphernalia” I had forgotten about that I don’t know what to do with.. Goodwill? 😅

The first is some wall art, this is probably two feet tall? I actually had it in my home office at our old house. But now, I don’t want to put it up, I think…

The next one is actually a gift that a former student gave me (for the record, I don’t teach music, I teach foreign languages at uni, which means during speaking practice with students in the foreign language, I end up talking about myself more than a teacher otherwise might).

I actually think it’s very cute. But have never used it, and I doubt I ever will, but it’s hard to give away somehow.

Oh, I should include this too. This is a framed print that I received as a gift. This one I will keep, it was in my piano room in our old house and I plan to put it in the piano room at the new house.

Do you find that you accumulate piano paraphernalia?

P.S. I forgot I have one more thing. It’s framed artwork that is a treble clef and bass clef that form a heart, on top of a musical score. It’s been in a box somewhere since we moved here, so I totally forgot about it. And I don’t have a photo (at least, not that I can easily find). I think I bought it at the same time as the treble clef above. It’s pretty but now strikes me as overly sentimental. 🧐

In any candle, I can’t remember where it is, so maybe I don’t have to think about that right now. 😁

ShiroKuro Like the treble clef (would it be nice made into a clock I wonder) and the print. The bag is somewhat unique but I don't use personal bags. We already have lots of pictures on our walls and I think I annoy my other half by saying they cannot take anymore. Much of her artwork has to be kept in folders.

You know, I think my large sized wall clock that I used in my home office has musical symbols instead of numbers… My brain! Why can I not remember these things! It’s only been in storage for a year. I’ll find out in a few weeks when I start unpacking.

Well, my spouse had a photo of my home office at our old house (why did he have this exact photo and how is it that he could so easily find it on his phone in the middle of breakfast? No idea, but that’s why we call them our better halves, I guess!)

Anyway, here’s my wall clock and that treble clef at the old house:

@ShiroKuro How could you not use that bag? It's a great conversation starter! I know if a lady carried that bag I would approach her from across the room and start talking about piano! But maybe you don't want to be approached by piano sleazeballs like myself🤣.

Will your new house have a garage? The wall in your garage would be a good place for the Ltreble clef. It would save you from having to decide about tossing it and it would class-up your garage.

      Love the clock.

I can relate to this, but from the other side. Our Bluthner is coming this Friday, and I've spent the last few weeks preparing the space it'll be going in. Setting up bookshelves, furniture, drapes, decorations, lighting, acoustic panels, etc. Trying to make the space feel as cozy and refined as possible, within the limitations of what we can accomplish in a rental.

Thankfully it's finally starting to come together. Last night as I stood proudly in the room's entrance admiring our handiwork, my wife playfully remarked that I was acting like an expectant mother preparing a nursery. 😆

Rubens, I would love to be approached a "piano sleazeball!" 😆

Now you've made me rethink... I haven't taken the stuff to Goodwill yet, but it's in the box.. maybe I'll go fish it out!
(This is why I have way too much stuff!)

We bought this painting from a talented young local artist:

The funny thing is, he claims that he wasn't thinking piano when he painted this. But his mom is literally a professional piano teacher at a university! 😃

          Enthusiastic but mediocre amateur.

Brother-in-law is an arquitect turned visual artist. Knowing my passion for piano, he painted this for a special occasion. Very thoughtful of him.

Loving the paintings that people are sharing!!

Thankfully no one has given me any piano or music related gifts, as I'm pretty particular about clutter. But last year one of the members of the chamber music workshop made us all little representations of ourselves! It was so sweet and I treasure my little pianist ❤️

I also have the cheesy trophy I got from my first piano competition, which makes for a handy bookend.

Thankfully the later competitions only gave out certificates. I don't think I would want a bunch of trophies but I probably wouldn't have the heart to throw them away. I have an RCM silver medal somewhere (Canadian provincial top score for piano exam) and that was a really big deal to me back then, maybe I should find it and put it out!

Stub Will your new house have a garage?

That's a great idea! Or the laundry room or some other less public room. I actually have some artwork in a walk-in closet 😂

Regarding the purse, I'm sure there's someone out there who would love it! I'm pretty active in my neighborhood Buy Nothing group (on Facebook) and it's so heartwarming to give stuff to people who are thrilled to be the recipient.

My favorite bit of kit is an action model I picked up off ebay a couple of years ago. I have grand (and very ill-conceived) plans to make some modifications at some point, and am using this to get my bearings. And it's just a lot of fun to see how an action works.

            My wife makes fancy quilts.

She made this little wall hanging for me a couple of years ago. I have it beside my piano, of course.

She said there wasn't a good way to make budgies that would fit into the available space, but the singing birds are appropriate anyway.

If you're a zombie and you know it, bite your friend!

Rubens I was actually at a Goodwill recently when a young man came in to donate a very nice-looking keyboard, stool and accessories. It was all I could do not to be a "piano sleazeball" myself!

            @TC3 and @kanadajin , I love those two prints/paintings!

@TC3 maybe the artist wanted you to think it was a Bigfoot footprint?? 😄

I'd be inclined to keep the bag, and use it to store all those little musicky things that can clutter up shelves - pencils, notebooks, stickers, erasers. But you're probably so techy you don't use these any more ... 🙂
