Adult Beginners--re-name?

TC3 I dislike how non-classical genres are "ghettoized" over at PW

I noticed that too. In fact in the beginner's forum there were (are? though it's rather quiet now) a handful of people who would be very condescending and preface everything they said with "ignore my words of infinite and superior wisdom if you're not into classical because in that case your attempts at learning anything are futile and your playing is garbage anyway". Ok I exaggerate... but not by much.

I really don't want the class distinction in this forum ever to happen. I mean it's okay to not like a genre (I can add a huge list of stuff I hate), but I respect and appreciate people that DO like it. Sometimes I even change my mind, such as the recent recital which opened my eyes to an entire different facet of ragtime music that I never realized existed.

That's magical. I think that's what happens when mingling, collaboration, and inclusion are part of a community's culture. Everybody wins.

Learner's Lounge or Learners Lounge, I like it!

Edit: I changed it. What do folks think? I have to admit, the "Adult Beginners" name basically became a recognizable brand for me. "Learners Lounge" still feels unfamiliar and doesn't grab me like "Adult Beginners" did... but I think it will grow on me!

navindra I like Learners Lounge a lot. Thanks for making the change! I think it captures the essence of people who want to grow, and avoids the issue of people who feel like they’ve ’graduated’ from beginner status. Learning is a lifelong proposition!

I like it too. I think it will open up the entire forum for everybody without feeling the need to stick to one category.

Question: would it make sense to move the two categories (LL and PZ) to the top and the two Piano forums underneath them?

I think a more logical order would be

Pianist Zone
Learners Lounge
Acoustic Pianos
Etc

Thoughts?

I don’t have a strong opinion at this, but it might make sense to see which forums have the most traffic and put those at the top…. Although that would probably mean that one of those would be the Acoustic Piano forum, and then there would be a mix of piano-specific and playing-specific in the order… So it probably makes the most sense to have the playing forums and the piano forums grouped together.

Another way to think about it would be which forums are most likely to draw new visitors, and put those at the top. Because regular users will have our own ways of getting around the site, and we already know what we’re looking for…

Love the new name! Reading back through the thread, I think Stubs suggested it. I was always jealous that composers got to have a lounge on PW.

Well, at least Lounge is there, seems like a relaxed place. And LL reads very nicely. 🙂
What about renaming Pianist Zone to Pianist Place? I like alliteration, PP and LL?
