Nightowl Thank you my noctural friend, for chiming in and helping me out. But unfortunately, both rsl and Simon are right when they say, do as Sophia says. Because Sophia is a woman and women are always right. This is rule #1. Except for the rare cases, they are not right. Then rule #1 comes into effect.
About blues and improvising vs playing from sheet music: I watches a lot of merriam music videos. And whenver Stu demonstrates the sound of a piano, he plays something on it. Sometimes it reminds me of a song, sometimes it is entirely new. But in both cases, he improvises and he is really good at doing so. It sounds always great and in my opinions this is what makes a musician. Take an instrument and make music.
One of those frequently asked questions is, how he can do that and he made a video about it. Two, actually. He recommended the blues, because
- it is an easy genre
- it is very suitable for improvising
- it is beginner friendly
- it is supports you with the 12-bar structure
- blues is the easiest genre (not sure, if I mentioned already)
Bottom line, I started the blues course because I wanted to learn how to improvise. Sophia (because she is a woman) and rsl and Simon (because they refer to a woman) are all right together by talking me into improvisation.
