rogerch I'm really glad to hear you improvising.
Thanks so much 🙂 I don't have to remind you who was the first to encourage trying full on improvisation - now it's finally happened 😃 All your fault! Well, yours and WieWie's.
WieWaldi How did you know, this happens?
Hahaha I didn't know it. But it was close to the time we normally feed them, and by then Simba thought he'd give me a clear reminder that he wouldn't mind his supper. Of course when I ignored him, he abandoned his katzenjammer again... and went back to his perch, with hurt feelings.
WieWaldi The only thing - the ending. This is something you really should re-visit.
Yes! One hundred percent! It was a thoroughly unacceptable ending on both counts. But I suddenly wanted to move on from the lesson, and I had been practicing the ending thoroughly that morning - it went well. Of course the camera betrayed me and it fell to pieces.... partly because I had forgotten the "monster" chord all of a sudden.
WieWaldi Did you more like compose it and then practice until it sits - or was that really free improvisation?
I could lie and say oh, it was all very well rehearsed, I created every lick and remembered them. Then used Musescore to write them all down and... yeah, no.
The real truth is that I just bumbled along as I played. So far, I have avoided all (blues) theory like the plague. No incessant scale practice, no learning of chord names or notes, nothing. Just gut feeling and those busy, busy ears telling me what I do wrong. I started with hitting almost random notes and learned which ones sound good, which ones clash. Then I learned that if I hit a clashing note, just go quickly to another one and pretend it was intended like this all along. You know, cool face and confident smile and play it again, louder 😎
After a while, those notes became easier to include. At some point I went through the chromatic scale to see which notes fit. I was super surprised to learn that they all do - and it became part of my exercise. Halfway I forgot I had already done it, and played it again. Then the hardest part became to decide when to play the finish, because by then I could go on for hours and play myself to sleep 😃
Nice nice nice! Welcome to the monster thread 😃 And yeah, we keep each other on each other's toes, that's for sure 😆
