I like “delicate” hopefully not timid though. (despite the recording situation, which, with the advice of others I hope to remedy for future recordings...another possibility that occurs to me is that I listened to it via Quicktime playback, not Youtube and just trusted Youtube…hmmm…)
I have a new tune I’m working up that is very cool and has a lot of dynamic variation (from pp to f) and will give me lots of room to work on pedal technique and all the artistic stuff... No spoilers…😁
The only dynamic Moccio provides is p. No hairpins, no tempo aside from Libremente for the intro and Moderately Fast for the rest. I did listen to his recording, which is what lead me to the tune to begin with (I was fascinated by the middle voice…and it’s a nice tune.)
Can’t really trust my ears yet with these modeled/sampled pianos, so I used the tools/information before me (and clearly recording is another ballgame.)
Hopefully soon, I’ll get out of all this tech twiddling stuff and just play!
When I fired up Pianoteq during practice, I had the app up with the score so that I could see what it thought my dynamic level was (despite how loud I perceived it.) I didn’t use Pianoteq's calibration tool as VSL’s velocity preset for the A88 was linear in its app, so I left Pianoteq's at linear. My keyboard was set to “moderately heavy” as that was reputed to allow me more dynamic control. As the velocity indicator showed, my output ranged from p to mp-mf. To my ear, sounded louder than that! But I trusted the velocity indicator… Upon recording, nerves did get in the way, but I hoped that practice induced muscle memory would keep to the desired dynamic.
