PIYW #9: Play "Wiosna" Your Way (July 2026) Performers: KevinM statistress Sophia rsl12 Platybat Bahamut_Harmony rogerch JustinVG Play It Your Way is a quasi-monthly event for beginners, professionals, classical, jazz, or pop pianists and everyone in between! Since May 2026, participants have been working on Wiosna by Chopin. Enjoy their performances below. More information about Play It Your Way and about how participants prepared this piece can be found in the Meta Feedback discussion. The September PIYW, Play Alexis Ffrench's "Last Song" Your Way, was just announced! . Also, be sure to participate in the August 15 Quarterly Recital! ALL comments must be polite and supportive, even when the performer has stated that any comments are allowed. "How to Give Criticism in a Nice Way: A Comprehensive Guide". Thanks for helping us to keep things friendly! Suggest pieces for future "Play It Your Way" events by using the suggestion box. We need suggestions for all genres of music, but particularly for the Jazz or Ragtime PIYW which will be announced on August. (Ideally, the Play It Your Way piece will be playable by many different skill levels, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.) Bahamut_Harmony Great playing! I love the embellishments you added, with the extra arpgeggio, the melody in octaves, and the fade out at the end. I also like the lush sound of your piano, along with the really cool lighting in the video!

JustinVG First try? Sounds great to me! You know this piece well and it sounds
very nice under your fingers.

I use a Zoom H1essential for recording. It's inexpensive, easy to set up, records in 32 bit float so no gain setting, and it sounds better than a phone recording to me. A more expensive, higher hassle setup would sound better but the H1essential feels like the right compromise to me.

A very different and enjoyable interpretation. It felt a lot more dramatic than mine. I do agree the piece isn't very "springy". When I played it for my daughter and asked her to guess what season it best represented she chose autumn 😀

That was really fun. I loved the unexpected turn you took with that. Certainly made it feel a lot more upbeat.

Sophia Now that I have listened to everyone, I have to say: the piece has actually grown on me. That surprises me, because I thought it would be tiring to listen to the same theme over and over. But there was enough variation to keep it super interesting. Plus it was fun to compare (in a good way) what the ones who played "my version" did with it. I learned a lot from them as well!

I'm glad to hear it! I was worried we put more Wiosna in one place than anyone could possibly handle!

Sophia well done! I didn’t hear any sloppiness or inconsistency, you played very nicely! And the video looks great! After all my posting about it, I never ended up even trying to learn how to add score to a video. 😅

rsl12 wow, that was great! I really enjoyed the overhead camera view so I could watch your hands. Challenging fingering indeed! I really like how you made the piece breathe, especially in the “empty space” between notes.

Platybat that was lovely! And also, welcome to Piano Tell!, I’m glad you found us! Your piano sounds really nice, that’s a hybrid right? So the same piano action as an acoustic, but no strings? It has such a great sound!

Bahamut_Harmony wow, what a great video and excellent playing! I love the arpeggio you added, very nice! Also, your tempo is much faster than some, and that gives a very different feel which I enjoyed. And as everyone has said, your video and the lighting are great! JustinVG very nice! I know you. Mentioned the iPhone recording, and certainly different equipment might be better, but your piano sounds really, really nice! And that comes through even on the iPhone. Also, as for what you want to express, it’s definitely coming out! Well done!

rogerch Omg! So, is “butchered” a new slang term for something? Like, owned it? Rocked it? If it wasn’t before, it is now. I love what you did with this! That was truly wonderful. And your left hand was amazing! I was not expecting it, but it works perfectly. And your piano sounds divine as always.

I agree with this wholeheartedly! I had completely lost my motivation to play this (and I’ve hardly practiced it at all) but now maybe I’ll get back to it and try to record something. Hearing everyone’s recordings gives me lots of ideas about how I might play it (except for @rogerch , there’s no way I can do what you do! 😅

ShiroKuro Thanks for the kind words, @ShiroKuro ! I used the term “butchered” because I changed the mood in the second half from sadness to celebration. I like it better my way, but my way is not consistent with the intent of the original and I wanted to acknowledge that. Maybe “butchered” was the wrong word to use!
