PIYW #9: Play "Wiosna" Your Way (July 2026) Performers: KevinM statistress Sophia rsl12 Platybat Bahamut_Harmony rogerch JustinVG Play It Your Way is a quasi-monthly event for beginners, professionals, classical, jazz, or pop pianists and everyone in between! Since May 2026, participants have been working on Wiosna by Chopin. Enjoy their performances below. The September PIYW, Play Alexis Ffrench's "Last Song" Your Way, was just announced! . Also, be sure to participate in the August 15 Quarterly Recital! ALL comments must be polite and supportive, even when the performer has stated that any comments are allowed. "How to Give Criticism in a Nice Way: A Comprehensive Guide". Thanks for helping us to keep things friendly! Suggest pieces for future "Play It Your Way" events by using the suggestion box. We need suggestions for all genres of music, but particularly for the Jazz or Ragtime PIYW which will be announced on August. (Ideally, the Play It Your Way piece will be playable by many different skill levels, but it doesn't necessarily have to be.) Bahamut_Harmony Welcome to PianoTell! That was an awesome first submission. I loved what you did with the camera angles and the reverb in the recording. And then there was that surprise ending too 😃 Looking forward to more of your recordings!

Bahamut_Harmony nicely done, painting a vivid picture, both visually and aurally! Everything contributes to a church vibe and since Wiosna means Spring, I picture it as Easter Mass music. The reverb and your small additions fit the overall esthetic hand in glove.

Thanks you two I had a ton of fun making this one and it definitely lit the fire for me to create more videos! I wanna play around with some more angles and I feel much more comfortable editing than I did in the past. Overall excited to become a better musician as well 😊

KevinM Woohoo, another lovely submission. I really liked the somewhat faster pace. Did you use your original recording or the one with the louder LH? Whichever you picked, it sounds well balanced and musical to me, so obviously you picked the best version to submit 😍

KevinM I wanted a recording with som rubato and better dynamics, but it was not to be. I did I think keep the accompaniment quiet letting the melody come through and I was pleased with that.

Platybat I liked that both you and rsl12 chose to go with the Liszt composition instead. Your dynamics and even tempo bring out a different feel than rsl12's, and I loved both interpretations a lot.

So nice to hear different interpretations where you can like both for different reasons.

Bahamut_Harmony I think this is what I love about PIYW. You can hear so many different takes on the same piece of music.

The richness to the sound you gave it with the reverb really gives it a relaxation feel to it and your visuals with the lighting really adds to that sense. That was lovely.

rogerch Let me say I like your butchering. The contrast of light and darkness you give it is fantastic, you really know how to make your piano growl, like a bear waiting for spring to provide the food it needs.

The iPhone will flatten the dynamics. If you don't want to go down the hardware route of buying microphones etc. I believe there are recoding apps you can get for your phone that won't flatten the dynamics.

rsl12 Gorgeous rsl, that is a lovely recording. So delicate, the classical training is obvious! That version has lovely harmonies, getting rather daring in the second half. Very professional sound, I thoroughly enjoyed that!

I think I missed your bonus recording. I'm glad to see you are capable of coming back down to earth and play the kiddie version 😋 - of course played equally beautiful. Every time I listen to you play, I learn a lot!

Now that I have listened to everyone, I have to say: the piece has actually grown on me. That surprises me, because I thought it would be tiring to listen to the same theme over and over. But there was enough variation to keep it super interesting. Plus it was fun to compare (in a good way) what the ones who played "my version" did with it. I learned a lot from them as well!
