I have been practicing the Liszt version,. Out of curiosity I tried the Chopin B117 (grade 3). It's only slightly different from the first part of the Liszt, and I think my interpretive choice works for both. I'm sure other choices can sound good, but here's how I would tackle it: DON'T emphasize the dotted half notes--play them lightly, and instead emphasize the other downbeat note (on both beats 1 and 2). I'll try to get a recording up to show what I mean. Because the dotted half is so static, I think it makes its presence known even when played lightly (particularly if a light foot is used), and the more interesting line is the LH downbeats, which can be shaped nicely as they descend.
Just my two cents. Should I record both? Maybe I will.
