I'll keep my old setup for now. Superlux 681 HD headphones. I've been happy with them.
My ancient 6core Intel Mac Mini 32GB 1TB SD drive will stay in place for now. I have a collection of VSL pianos. (Bösendorfer Imperial, VC280, Blüthner, and the ancient but good Vienna Imperial). I have a few other non VSL pianos but I've not played any of them for sometime. I see that while I was away VSL changed their DRM approach and the time window for me to update is long since past. So I'll probably stick with this for as long as the mac mini lives.
I am thinking I will try Pianoteq and the Bechstein which seems popular. But I might need an older version of pianoteq to work with my current computer hardware.
The powered speakers I was using when I lived in Sheffield worked nicely there but the sound in my current room is off. I think the issue is more the boxiness and how regularly rectangular the room is which highlights specific frequencies over others. So my update of the room will hopefully fix that. If I'm still not happy then I might look for some new speakers. My setup in Sheffield was in the loft room with all the odd angles that a loft room has and that really helped with the sound. (How I carried the MP11SE up the stairs to the loft room I have no idea, my brain has blocked all memory of it). One of the speakers took a bit of a beating when we moved, so it might be damaged but I don't think so. The brand is Edifier but I can't find a link anywhere to that old model.
I will probably keep my MP11SE. There is a chance we will buy a small holiday home and I could leave it there and just practice on it using the internal sounds with headphones.
