raagamuffin Yes, it is deliberate (though I don't think about it). I do believe that suppleness is really important, and using the whole of the upper body, and certainly the arms and shoulders, not just the wrists and fingers, helps that. I have really small hands. I need my body to give me more power and also to help shape the legato.

Thanks, this is good information. I've seen some guidance that recommends a 90 degree arm angle. I've been experimenting with different approaches. I'm still a novice, so I'm still in the process of developing bad habits 😉

@WieWaldi @pianocat @keff thank you all so much!! I kept doing more takes, trying to get rid of a few flubs and I was starting to get really demoralized! But I decided to share the recording ~~when I realized I was getting tired and my concentration was slipping and I was only going to get worse!~~ anyway. 😃

Ha ha! Thank you! I could probably have gotten a better angle with how I had my iPhone in the tripod holder, but I didn't realize it until I was all done! 😃

Additional info: My holiday break started this week. This is my second piece. King Wenceslas was from Bohemia, the present day Czech Republic. The good king gave to the poor on the Feast Day of Stephen which is either on Dec. 26 or 27 depending on the calendar (Gregorian / Julian).

Additional info: I used to play simple one handed melodies in my 20s, but have stuck to the guitar for the last few decades. I decided to get serious recently and officially started learning to play piano about 9 months ago. I’m currently learning simple two voice pieces from Bach, Mozart and Handel. Those two voice ideas are used here with a small Burgmuller (who is also a favorite composer) chromatic bit in between.
To add some flavor and explore variations, the original time signature and a 7/8 time signature is used. I couldn’t quite figure out how to play in 5/8 time, it wasn’t for a lack of trying 🙂
I’ve been working on this since after Thanksgiving after rsl12 encouraged me to submit for the prior recital. (My goal is to revisit this piece every year and add ideas I explored over the previous year.)
Thanks for listening to it, I know there is a lot of better music to listen to, and some of you taking time to listen and provide feedback is appreciated.
