Pleased to find out my ancient credits on Henle were not retired, so was able to use them to get the score.

I downloaded the music and read through it a couple of times. It is surprisingly difficult to read, lots of unexpected little things! I am definitely in for recording something before the deadline. I rather like doing the repeats but a little more dramatically the second time.

Made a YT recording this afternoon but it contains a few slips and glitches. Will try again next few days and over the holiday period before declaring it done.

Listened to a recording of the fourth movement. It was done in 30 seconds with repeats.

It was so fast.

KevinM aww, don't worry about that. It sounds good even at slower speeds.

rsl12 I thought I had achieved an acceptable recording this morning until I played the video. I have taken the fourth movement slightly slower because having played the whole sonata in one take I didn't want a major mess-up at the very end by playing too fast. Even then it contains a couple of slips. Will have to think if I want to put myself through another recording session. Can I handle the pressure ?

keff hmm I suppose you are opposed to re-recording the 4th and splicing it with the other 3 movements? If you do all 4 movements in one take you definitely get bragging rights, but from a listener's perspective, I don't think it matters too much.

I don't think I can play it without making a couple of slips! Recording is stressful.

rsl12 Thanks for the suggestion but I don't think I have the technology to splice. Perhaps Audacity would do it for me. If I played this sonata to a live audience to the standard in this morning's recording I guess I would be happy, even though perhaps all four movements are slower than they should be and there are errors of various forms. In its current form my recording will just show the progress I can make after about four weeks of practice and that is ok.

Even though I've put this behind me, I'm still annoyed that this mordent (I played it as a turn) gave me trouble:

I regret not circling it on my copy the way I've done here. My thumb never cooperated unless I gave it my full attention. I would always mess it up, but the one two measures later would be fine because my angry attention would be properly directed!

rsl12 It is marked as a turn in my score and there is a similar turn two bars later on the high F. I found the first one the most difficult but in the end I decided both of them were taking up too much attention so they have been ignored. (In an earlier post I did threaten to ignore all the ornaments but I have included some trills, perhaps not very well as is my wont.)

rsl12 I'm playing all the ornaments however I feel and not exactly as written, adding little turns on a lot of trills 🙂
