twocats I was massaging the tendons
Massaging is very good, definitely keep doing that! When I did PT (for my feet, I have lots of problems 😅 …. Anyway the physical therapist said that massaging is really good, one bc it improves blood flow and two she said that just massaging the area seems to trigger the body, almost like reminding the brain that that specific areas needs attention.
I'm sorry to hear that you have hand issues and I hope you've been able to manage it since the hand specialist wasn't helpful
Thank you! My hands are ok as long as I don’t abuse them when I’m doing data analysis.
The one helpful thing the specialist did was recommend night braces, similar to what people wear for carpel tunnel but designed specially for the de quervain’s tendon. When I’m using my hands a lot for work, I sleep with those braces and allows the tendon to truly rest. Since I started sleeping with the braces, along with just paying attention to how I use my hands while working, I haven’t had much trouble (and no pain).
But the takeaway for me is that I’m susceptible to that kind of thumb tendinitis, so I try to be very careful with piano stuff.
