keystring Personally I don't at all like this piecemeal approach you're describing.
I don’t like it either. Not just because she’s taking it one step at a time, that part wouldn’t be so bad.
But the way the whole class is set up is not working for me. She’s not posting a schedule in advance, and the assignments that are due at 11:59pm are only posted mid-morning on the day that they’re due. I’m a morning person and it’s not unusual for me to be up at 5am. The other day I got up and was going to work on the assignments, and they weren’t posted and didn’t post until 10am, at which time I was already at work and in a meeting!
And then of course there’s the matter of not even being able to read ahead in the textbook, since students can only access sections of the book that are associated with a posted assignment. I was thinking I might try to get ahead in the course over the weekend, but nothing for next week is posted. When I asked her about this, it was clear that she has no intention of changing it, but this is just not a good fit for me with my work schedule and other responsibilities.
So I’m going to drop the course. I’ve never succeed at studying music theory on my own, not because of difficulty but just because I do better when I have someone to work with. That’s why I wanted to take a course. 🙁
Maybe I’ll have another opportunity to study music theory in the future. But not this time.
