rsl12 Haha, true. Still, there is the internet to look up. Expanding my mental horizon whenever possible. Nobody can say, I don't learn something from Sophias comments. ๐Ÿค“

Animisha Have you heard of Piano Syllabus?

I will repeat WieWaldiโ€™s comment - I hadnโ€™t but as soon as I wake up properly, I will expand my knowledge horizon and look it up ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks Animisha! That'll definitely come in handy now that I'm preparing to stand on my own two feet, pieces wise ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Sophia It's working for me... try again?

Weird, I can open it on my phone but not on my laptop. Maybe it's a browser problem.

ShiroKuro I can open it on my phone but not on my laptop. Maybe it's a browser problem.

Big hint from a software developer: Always install at least 2 different browsers on your computer. Sometime one browser can't open a webpage, but then the other can.

I have two, I only log in to PT with one of them.

        Sophia

ShiroKuro which version of the Toccato in Dm is that? Is it this one?

That's the one, Shiro ๐Ÿ™‚ Four pages of it, so give me one good reason why I shouldn't skip it ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What if I offer to write lyrics and sing along?

(I'm joking of course. It would be a fun challenge to write lyrics, but not a fun challenge to actually sing the melody.)

rsl12 What if I offer to write lyrics and sing along?

Oooooooooooohhhhhhh you be careful!!! I might take you up on that with another piece. In fact, I'm pretty sure that at some point, I'll be cashing in on your very generous offer

Sophia So now I face the difficult decision whether I want to be a Serious Pianist who Plays Bach

There are hundreds of other pieces by Bach to choose from if you don't like this one.

Animisha About the Bach piece, it is Piano Syllabus level 9. Completely outrageous of Alred's editor to put that in their book.

There are very many transcriptions of that organ work. So unless one knows the piano syllabus is ranking the one posted in this thread, one can't conclude the ranking for the piece posted on this thread is level 9. Maybe The piano syllabus is ranking this transcription by Busoni:

I canโ€™t answer that one, pianoloverus, and Iโ€™m currently in between computers so I canโ€™t scan my page either. But the pieces surrounding it are Prelude in C Major from the Well Tempered Clavier, Trumpet Tune, Fur Elise, Prelude in A Major (Chopin), and Moonlight Sonata. That should give an indication of the level of this particular transcription. I canโ€™t imagine it would suddenly deviate all that much from the norm ๐Ÿ™‚

Sophia I found one listing on piano syllabus for the Bach Toccata in D minor that was ranked 9 but it was the Busoni transcription which makes perfect sense. Unless there was another specific listing for the version posted earlier (which doesn't even have a transcriber listed on the sheet music), then the assumption that the previously posted transcription is a level 9 is incorrect.

Haha yeah, I would have assumed the same really. But I didn't quite think I had progressed to level 9 after such a short time (I wish!) so I readily believe it when I hear that this version is more at the "Fur Elise" level I am just about to reach ^_^
