Rob A great arrangement of one of my favourite xmas carols, beautifully played! (my favourite version too, of the two which I believe originate from different parts of the UK?). Best enjoyed in a cold, draughty, 500+ year old church, but your video was super cool too.

HeartKeys Really cool, loved this performance of a classic. I always find it impressive when people can play so well from ear. Thanks!

rsl12 A really cool arrangement but my goodness looks tricky - 7/8?? You pulled it off though and I bet it's as fun to play as to listen!

thanks @rogerch for starting this! enjoyed it all very much so far! I'm hoping to have something to share - I started attempting to write a theme and variations thing on one of my favourite carols. well, i'm so far halfway through var 2 of a planned 5, so we might not hear it til Christmas Day 🀣

BicBic Thank you. It is also my favourite version of the two, being the one I grew up with, and used to sing in a draughty Welsh chapel, as a child. πŸ₯Ά
I just looked up the origin, and am ashamed to admit that after all these years, I didn't know that the poem was by Christina Rossetti, and music by Gustav Holst!
Thank you for prompting me to research it.

And now, here is a short intermission.

I hope it is ok to post this submission, as it contains no piano whatsoever!
Although it was all played on a Kawai MP5 digital piano, using various VSTs.

This is last year's 'Christmas card' before I added text'
The video intro may seem an odd choice, but not long before Christmas, an approaching bushfire, forced us to evacuate our homes. I took the video just before we left.
Thankfully, due to the tireless efforts of fire and emergency services, we were allowed back the following day.
We just felt so grateful to have a home, in which to celebrate Christmas, when several families had lost theirs.

Hi! This is my first post her. I hope I'm doing it right.
The piano is a Kawai CA99 which I enjoy more now than when I purchased it. Just getting used to it, I guess.
I use Davinci Resolve video editing software which is amazing! Also, it's free.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

ErnieAd, I hope you don't mind--I moved your post to the Holiday Recital, since it seems like it will fit nicely there. Welcome, you played it beautifully!

ErnieAd thanks for sharing this lovely clip. I also like that fireplace background which adds to a cozy Christmas vibe.

ErnieAd Welcome to piano tell! You are absolutely doing it right. That was lovely playing!

Thanks for moving it. This site is more applicable and I didn't know it existed. Have a blessed Christmas!

Still catching up with my watching, but just wanted to say welcome to the forum @ErnieAd πŸ™‚

Rob I do vaguely remember reading it was Holst - do you know if he wrote both versions or just our preferred ??

Rob I’m always impressed by the tech that goes in to producing things like this (I’m not entirely sure what a VST is!) - I struggle to figure out just how to record myself πŸ˜‚ Glad you were able to be back home for Xmas and hopefully no such dramas this year. Bushfire with lost houses just before Xmas last year tho - was that in WA?

BicBic Holst composed our preferred. The other version is by Harold Darke, and is the one used at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols from King's College Cambridge.

ErnieAd another of my favourite carols!!! I loved this. The arrangement and your playing were wonderful. Where is the music from, was that your own arrangement / version?

              BicBic Thank you.
We are just North of Perth, WA. I think about eighteen homes were destroyed in that fire, which originated around Wanneroo area.

Rob I remember hearing about it (former and future Perth resident here) - thankfully seems to be a quieter start to the season this year

rogerch I want to hear more!

So I came up with my version today of O Holy Night, and may end up playing it and posting here this weekend, if you’re up for it!
