We could delay publishing the recital by 2 weeks... and publish in December.

I'm only saying that theoretically right now because I've learned that communicating all this upfront is best and last minute changes aren't ideal, but we could still do that if there's significant support for it.

It may be worth getting at least 4 recitals behind us before switching things up.

General thoughts are welcome on:

  1. How long should the submission period be? 2 weeks seems like a good starting point but if we want to welcome ABF participants, we can open 2 weeks early for a December recital.
  2. Should the recitals be quarterly or every quadrimester? Some people have several pieces ready to go on short notice, others need more time... but I think quarterly seems a reasonable compromise.
  3. Assuming we stick with quarterly, it seems like folks are generally favorable to (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec)? Any other proposals?

Any other ideas?

Hey Navindra, since people have already submitted pieces for the November recital I suggest proceeding with November as planned.

If it's not too much work for you we could have a recital in December as well. Otherwise, we can proceed with a holiday piece thread in Member Recordings as we've been discussing. πŸ™‚

Most importantly, I'm super grateful to you @navindra for starting pianotell and giving us recital opportunities. My suggestions are just suggestions and I'm happy to participate in whatever you decide. πŸ™‚

rogerch I think a holiday piece thread in Member Recordings is an excellent idea!

I can provide any ancillary support that might be needed if you or someone else can help organize and run it. πŸ™‚

If you want me to run it as a 1-off themed recital in the Recital Hall, I think that will be quite doable as well and I can definitely do it if there's wide interest for it.

I don't have a strong opinion about whether PT's recitals should be offset from ABF's...

I will upload my recital piece whenever the deadline is.

But I would love a holiday recital πŸ™‚

@navindra yes to the comments above thanking you! This is a wonderful site and you've given us all a lovely gift by creating it. πŸ™‚

I second that! No third that. I mean "everybody else" that πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°

Ok, I have something. 6 days from start to getting a recording and I'm submitting it now.

At one time I thought this piece was difficult.

            Player1 Awesome work P1! πŸ˜ƒ

"Don't let's ask for the moon, we have the stars." (Final line from Now,Voyager, 1942)

navindra I've not recorded yet... and I'm thinking maybe this time I'll do it on Pianoteq so that I could also submit it to Modartt's 2024 contest and make an easy 20€. Or maybe not... but then I'll have to tune one of my pianos and clear the house (of noisy little people) for the recording. I'm waffling, but I'll get it done either way!

I just play tested all my options and I think I'll be recording on my upright this time around. I've never done that before, so I don't have high hopes I'll be able to figure out just how to properly do that!

I did give Pianoteq a spin and I enjoyed it very much. The new BΓΆsendorfer is very nice, the U4 is as fun as ever, and I think the NY Steinway D remains my all-up favorite.

I'm just feeling the acoustic upright more this time around. I'll have to pick a tuning and recording strategy... I've got my work cut out for me.

If all fails, I might just have to go back to Pianoteq. πŸ˜ƒ

The last recording session was a rush. Used a grand piano at the conservatory half an hour before a teacher was scheduled for a lesson. Setup the camera and did serveral re-takes while checking the time every few minutes.

Finally got a recording of my piece! Feels good to play well.

In my younger days I was musical and could remember tunes on TV commercials easily. Piano was not my instrument due to playing techniques required. At age 11 a cousin showed me songs in a beginner book. Up to 4 lines in large print. A piece with LH repeated chords was too hard and kept me away from piano for 3 decades. Today a piece like this would be easy to sight read within an hour.

The piece I recorded is not done yet. There is an upcoming event for amateur pianists. If I decide to attend I might play it.

                Nightowl

Hah, wait until after the 15th to say that. The piece isn't very polished because I didn't really want to spend any more time on it.

                Alright!

There's still plenty of time to get your performance in! πŸ™‚

Gyaaa. The clock is ticking! Ok, starting today, I will record my first play through of each piece (there are three) at each practice. After a few days, I should have one that I can share….

I touched up the tuning on my upright piano today. Hopefully it's good enough!

I plan to record tomorrow but unfortunately I don't really have a strategy. I really needed to experiment with mic and camera positions but I don't have the luxury of time for all that.

I'll just have to wing it and hope for the best!

                Anyone else recording this weekend?
