In my younger days I was musical and could remember tunes on TV commercials easily. Piano was not my instrument due to playing techniques required. At age 11 a cousin showed me songs in a beginner book. Up to 4 lines in large print. A piece with LH repeated chords was too hard and kept me away from piano for 3 decades. Today a piece like this would be easy to sight read within an hour.

The piece I recorded is not done yet. There is an upcoming event for amateur pianists. If I decide to attend I might play it.

Nightowl

Hah, wait until after the 15th to say that. The piece isn't very polished because I didn't really want to spend any more time on it.

Here's the Wednesday tally!

Alright!

There's still plenty of time to get your performance in! πŸ™‚

Gyaaa. The clock is ticking! Ok, starting today, I will record my first play through of each piece (there are three) at each practice. After a few days, I should have one that I can share….

I touched up the tuning on my upright piano today. Hopefully it's good enough!

I plan to record tomorrow but unfortunately I don't really have a strategy. I really needed to experiment with mic and camera positions but I don't have the luxury of time for all that.

I'll just have to wing it and hope for the best!

Anyone else recording this weekend?

I'm coming back from hiatus and working on recording something. If I can't get anything I like today there's always tomorrow πŸ˜‰

I haven’t been recording much because I’ve been practicing for my recital, which is later today. I want my PT recital piece to be a different piece (one of the ones I’ll play in the concert at the end of this month, but not today’s recital piece). So my plan is to start tomorrow and work on getting a shareable recording of that piece …

Cutting it a little close here…

Like a lot of others, I've got something in the works. It may not be polished, but I'll get it in by the deadline (probably right at it).

The down side of having a so-so version of my piece already recorded with plans to better it is that I haven't been as motivated as I would be if I had nothing or something really bad.

I'd planned another session yesterday, but warming up with it turned out to be one of those times out of the blue where it's like I'd never seen the piece before.

Ooooh I can so relate to that!! I can't tell you how many times that has happened. Not funny at the best of times, but especially when it happens right before you NEED a decent recording πŸ˜…

I recorded my piece some time ago thinking I would go back and improve it but then someone asked if I could learn the piano part of a well known carol so they could play along with recorder. The problem is that we can't play together so I am recording to YT and bending over backwards to make sure the rhythms are as correct as I can make them. The carol contains a 16 bar piano part cadenza between the verses and so it is not particularly easy. My PT recital 2 piece improvement has fallen by the wayside.

I set things up and did a test recording for levels and such. Everything's working, so I have no excuse now ... I'll do a few takes over the next few days, then submit something by Thursday, even if it's the best of a bad bunch.

    Enthusiastic but mediocre amateur.

TC3 Can't wait to hear your submission. I bet it will be really, really, really good.
Actually I can't wait for the entire recital to be published. More in this forum than in PW. Last time, PT submissions leaned more towards Jazz/Blues/Modern/Contemporary, while PW was leaning towards Classical. And Classical isn't my favorite genre.

Oh damn, I just realized how out of place my entry seems to be, since nearly the entire recital is non-classical.
Oh well, I'm not gonna remove it now, but feel free to skip it, because it's 8 minutes of more or less palatable russian chromatic counterpoint. You have been warned.

Rubens I see plenty of classical in the list above. You'll be in good company!

I’m really looking forward to hearing this and everyone else’s playing!

That's how the first half of my recording session went today! It was exactly as if I had never seen the piece before nor practiced all the problematic parts. My performance just fell apart in the most frustrating ways.

I was simply trying too hard.

For the second half of the session, I just sat back and let autopilot do its thing. I was just there to enjoy the ride.

I probably got some usable takes from this, barring technical issues. I better have as I'm just about done packing everything up! πŸ˜ƒ

It's not really out-of-place, not any more than my Prokofiev Sonata, at least
