twocats The frustrating thing about this thread is that I started it because I disagreed with some advice one person was giving another person entirely. It has nothing to do with me, but like I usually do, I stuck my nose in it. 🤣So now everybody thinks this thread is about me wanting to play fast pieces before I'm ready. This is the punishment I deserve! 😂🤣 Stay out of it, Pallas!
For clarity. I am not trying to play pieces that are too fast for me. I'm working with a teacher. She has my back. Under adult supervision, I'm already doing scales in 3 octaves, in triplets, at a snail's pace of about 50 bpm (triplets, though!) I trust the process. I promise.
But I saw someone suggest that the way to bring a piece up to tempo is to prioririze speed over accuracy. I didn't agree. So, I started this thread, and I got my just desserts for being a busybody.
Congratulations. The arc of history bends toward justice.
Now, will people please concentrate on telling us newbies effective ways to bring a piece up to tempo, for crying out loud?
OR are people collectively saying that if one is struggling to bring a piece up to tempo, that the piece is, by nature of the problem, objectively too hard, and the solution is to pick an easier piece and put the other piece aside until it's no longer hard to get the piece up to tempo? Or is that NOT the case, and in this case, one should carry on, diagnose the issues, fix problems, and just click up with a metronome?
THERE. Whew!
I'm going to go play with some squeaky toys.
