lilypad I'm making progress!
First of all, to state the obvious, proprioception and feel are independent skills.
I've found the best strategy is to hone proprioception so that I can get as close to where I need to go as possible in one shot. Only use feel (or eventually, peripheral vision) for final confirmation or corrections.
Regarding feel itself, finger tips work best for me. I found it easier to start practicing by landing directly on the black keys as accurately as possible.
If I'm confused as to whether I've landed on a group of 2 or group of 3, it's usually because I'm in between, so a slight shift of my fingers usually clears up the confusion. Finally, I confirm by sound and not vision. 2 black keys are Do Re and 3 black are Do Re Mi. If I get pentatonic sounds then clearly I've missed the mark... just shift slightly to correct.
It's so much easier now... the breakthrough for me was to shift my fingers slightly when confused. Now, even though I've only practiced landing on 2 or 3 black keys, I'm finding it easier to feel wherever I need to land.
This is fun!
