I'm watching this video (for educational purposes 😉 ) and I'm surprised by the (for lack of a better term) index finger "slap" he uses. It's at 28 seconds.

Is this normal? I try to avoid doing this because I do it accidentally on a much too frequent basis so seeing it done is somewhat horrifying to me.

Already working on Christmas music? 😉

No, it's not typical to slap a finger like that and usually results in a harsh sound.

Am I already working on Christmas music? Me? The guy who doesn't even do his lessons?

I've seen it done in jazz sometimes for a very strong accent. In the video, that's what it looks like he's doing and it looks planned and thought out and not random.

My spouse has forbidden me to play Christmas music until December 1. Luckily, I don't think she's very familiar with Vince Guaraldi's "Christmas is Coming" with its Latin rhythm as a Christmas tune, so I'm safe for whenever I need to start relearning it. But first I'm relearning "The Great Pumpkin Waltz" for an October piano meetup.

Maybe I might be induced to learn and play Carol of the Bells. Maybe.

This inducement might will require an assortment of home baked goodies. Soft batch: Chocolate/macadamia nut, Chocolate/Peppermint Stick, Chocolate Fudge with frosting. Served with a quality hot cocoa and good conversation.

After all, that brass ring isn't going to catch itself.
