Pallas Fair point, but fwiw, if we've got more than one wordy person (like me, ahem), I'm happy to pitch in extra. [I tend to come at these things theoretically, w/a lot of "what if" type questions, which can take a lot of time to answer. Once I was in for a medical consult, and after ~ 75 min of back-and-forth I asked the doc what questions I'd missed. She gave me the side-eye and said, "most people stop after the first one". 🤣]

Also, is anyone interested in compiling a partial list of questions in advance? (Or, alternatively, does that seem inappropriate?)

Just off the top of my head, I'm curious about

(1) ranjit's long-ago question about whether/how Gebrian thinks flow states affect the general timing in her schedules.

(2) whether any of her ideas/research shine a light on how to regain one's touch on the piano. (I don't know if this is something she can speak to, since her main instrument is the viola.)

Another question: In her attentional focus videos, she talks about how aiming for the sound results in the body's movements being the most optimized, vs aiming for specific hand movements. But it is a common issue for some students to focus on the sound and somehow get a piece of music to sound good while using inefficient or tense movements. How do you reconcile these?

Since our time will be limited, I'm going to read the book again and primarily ask questions that will help me most effectively use the methods in my practice as a first-year piano student working with many small pieces at a time.

I very easily get into a flow state at the piano so I have to set a timer to make sure I get my breaks!

Nice idea but I probably won't be able to join for 2 hours in a time slot that matches your time zone. Besides, I watched all the videos and I don't really have questions at this stage.

I can contribute to the fee if you guys are OK recording the whole thing so I could watch it later.

Edit: already now during practising, a bunch of questions are arising... I really hope that you will choose a time that suits us in Europe!

Although it's hard for me to commit to anything synchronous, I'd be happy to contribute to the fee as well. I like BartK's idea of making a recording available if that's viable.

For those concerned about the time, please suggest three meeting times that you think will be convenient for everyone, and we can discuss. If we can all agree on three possible times, I'll ask Dr. Gebrian if one of them fits her schedule.

I'll also ask if she offers recordings for those who are not able to attend due to time zone differences.

I'm also in the eastern time zone of the US, and if the meeting is M-F, I could probably only do it during school hours (9:30-2:30) or later in the evening (after 10 pm). The earlier time span might work for those in Western Europe, perhaps?

Weekends are more flexible for me, but also more variable, fwiw.

I had thought it would be pure Q&A, since I'm assuming most people will have watched at least her primary 3-video series. (That will be my homework before the Zoom meeting, so I'm hoping you guys don't schedule it in the next 2 weeks.)

I don't know the structure of Dr. Gebrian's presentation, but she is aware that many of us have read the book and have questions. I would be happy to ask for an agenda when we confirm which day we would prefer.

I heard from Dr. Gebrian. She says: "I could do either Monday, Sept. 9 from 10am-noon or Friday, Sept. 20 from 10am-noon. Which would you prefer? And yes, it can be recorded for those who can't attend. 🙂"

At this time, I would like a head count on who can attend in person on which day/time. Please leave a comment with your preference, and I will add up the numbers so we can decide as a group how to respond. 10 a.m. to noon is the block of time Dr. Gebrian is offering to try to meet the needs of as many people as possible in multiple time zones.

For those who cannot attend in person, I will be collecting your questions in advance and sending those to her so you can have your answer in the recording of the session.

Once we decide on the date, I'll start organizing the shared payment, which I'm happy to manage on behalf of the group.
