My practice schedule is a shambles, with summer camp and work....but at least I can manage to squeeze in a few fun, but un-pianistic upgrades!

First up, I've been looking for a hygrometer with a better display for a while. Specifically, something with e-ink. Govee comes through here with a tiny little unit, for just $10!

The text is smaller, but the contrast and viewing angles are far better than the LCD unit I've been using.

This may not seem like much of an improvement worth discussing, but much of my playing time is early in the morning, and it typically looks like this:

Even though the text is smaller on the e-ink display, it's far more readable in low light. This one has a better BT connection to my home server, too.

Even though I'm going to replace and remove the LCD one, I'm not even going to pretend I'm not humidity-obsessed anymore. I accept my fate.

The next one up is just extending the capabilities of some hardware I already have installed. Who doesn't like gaudy rainbow mood lighting? 🤣

Gombessa Now you need a mini disco ball under the piano!

    Enthusiastic but mediocre amateur.

That is pretty much it (questionably so, I'd say) 🙂

The funny thing is having a light go off at the pedals is a pretty good way to get a noticeable but unobtrusive notification. Right now, I have it set to alert me if the CO2 level in the room is getting high, and also if the garage door is opening.

Flashing lights in various colours are a common system that deaf people use to tell if the doorbell is ringing or the fire alarm is going off.

The fire alarm in the dementia home where my mother lives has powerful strobe lights that flash in every room to wake up the residents if needed.
