1935 Baldwin Model F (video)

I stumbled upon this video, and really liked the sound of this Baldwin Model F, and wanted to share!

The video overall is a comparison between some vintage Steinway, Baldwin, and Mason & Hamlin pianos.

When I got to this particular segment of the video below, starting the 5:05 mark, I felt there was a distinct tone coming from the Baldwin. Very "alto/tenor" voice.

As someone who has minimal exposure to American made pianos, this was enjoyable!

Thanks so much for posting this. My son's teacher came out to play the A170 today, and I was struggling to explain what it doesn't have; the only way I could describe it was to say that it's not "relaxed" in a way that a lot of old American pianos are. The Baldwin in this video has it in spades (and the M&H does not), whatever it is - kind of like the difference between a cowboy rodeo and an English hunter-jumper course. They both can be insanely wild, but they feel so different in nature.

Listening to the Baldwin reminded me of why I played so much as a kid - it was really, really relaxing, and even when I was working hard, the tension would just drain out of me like sand from an hourglass. I'll have to see if I can find more recordings done on old Baldwins.
