I had planned open-heart surgery last October.
But it did not go as planned.
When they finally brought me up I found that I had a bunch of unexpected plumbing changes (total arch replacement, nine stents, etc.) But relevant to here... they'd also done a surprise fasciotomy on my left arm after it lost circulation while I was on the heart-lung machine. (Wanna see gross pics??? 🥴)
The fasciotomy has left me with reduced motion in the left ring finger. My hand therapist and surgeon think it's probably an adhesion and apparently I'll have to live with the limitation.
I've wound up changing the fingering on a few pieces.
I recorded one of those pieces tonight as a sanity check.
And yes, I guess I dare post it.
It's a piece of music I really enjoy. Rachmaninoff in one of his less melancholy moods - I've read that this was written on the birth of his first child (a daughter).
Prelude Op 23 No 6 in E-flat major.

Jane Your playing is lovely! It must be frustrating to have to compensate for the changes to your finger, but to my ears your left hand sounds wonderful in the recording (your right hand sounds great too)!

May you be healthy and continue to record and share your beautiful playing!

    "Do I dare"???!
No dare about it. You should be proud of that performance, and all that you have overcome to achieve it!

    Thank you for sharing it.👏

Forget your dreams. Go back to practicing every scale hands separately and hands together. Sincerely, hakki.

Ok just kidding of course. You play beautifully, especially the left hand!
Wow I didn't know you went through so much physically. Glad you came out of the garage in such good shape. You are a tough one, Jane!

    Thanks for the kind words!
Since I started learning this piece I've kept in mind Ruth Slenzynska's comments from when Rach was teaching it to her.
In particular, the little flourish of floating notes at the end to me is a breeze ruffling the leaves and blossoms to which he referred.

@Rubens Why torment me with nightmares when I have no dreams and am happy with my hacking away... 😉

Jeez this almost sounds like Shakespeare to my uncultured mind.
