The big achievement (by my body, not me) is that my left hand is feeling better. For the past few days, I've sort of been going off script on the piano, setting my more challenging piece a little to the side and working on my other piece and just stuff I like. I've picked Chopin's Minute Waltz back up, and somehow a month without touching it has solidified the notes, so I can play it with a metronome, which was revealing of some areas that needed attention that I didn't even suspect. I've started noodling around with Debussy's 1st Arabesque, as well. The other piece I've been contemplating is Couperin's "Soeur Monique." The piece is simple, but the ornaments push up the difficulty several levels. Sometimes I get them how I like them, but they are in every measure, often on awkward fingers, so usually I play some well and others oafishly. But this year I've learned the benefits of having pieces that really focus on something that challenges me, and how that leads to improvement that even focused technique work doesn't help with to the same degree, because I'm working both on a mechanical issue and something that I want to sound a certain way (which adds an added constraint).
