The Classical Piano Method By Heumann

Hello all - joined yesterday.

Anyone working through Hans-Gunter Heumann "The Classical Piano Method"?
Currently I have 5 pieces to go in Method Book 1 and am most impressed. I intend to continue the series and have already purchased the second (and third) Method Books complete with the additional repertoire and finger fitness books.

If any forum member here has worked through this course I would be grateful for any insights or observations.

I learned with this method book, and also finger fitness and repertoire books when I started learning. But it's a while ago so I don't know if I remember a lot from it.

Welcome, Keith! I don't have any knowledge of the method you mentioned, but I'll be following this thread with interest 😊

You know, it might be helpful to change the title of this topic to your method book? We have a few other threads going on Alfred and Faber (I think) so you could be starting a trend here 😄

I also don't know about the method book. But I recommend checking out "Lets Play Piano Methods" youtube channel , if you haven't already. I think he has recorded all 3 books recently.

Another enthusiastic vote for Let's Play Piano Methods. I am following him (the guy's name is Gale) through Faber Adult AIO Book 1, and do everything he says, with good results. Don't be turned off by Gale's lack of flair. I have a strong feeling he teaches the right things, and the right way of thinking.

Thanks for the responses.

As it happens I did come here from PW, I do not like to criticise online, but I found the advertising a bit tiresome.

Had a look at "Lets play piano methods" and you are right he does cover this method - thank you. Seems to be working for me, I am finding it sensibly paced with a very interesting choice of music.

How do I change the title?

This method also has a duet collection by the way. I know you all were talking about duets on the other forum, maybe the duet collection is interesting for you.

Possibly - I have all of the method series except the duet collection. The current plan is:

Complete Method Book 1 and the level 1 Finger Fitness book

almost finished, 4 pieces to go in Method 1 and about halfway through Finger Fitness 1 then.

Start working through Method 2 and Finger Fitness 2 whilst using Level 1 Repertoire for sight reading development

Rinse and repeat for Level 3

Hopefully this should work or am I being silly?

iternabe I can't believe he spends so much of his time to just help people to play. He doesn't try to sell anything*. Just a few affiliated links but that's all. Amazing.

I thought I would grow out if his advice. But just other day (for Faber AIO 1) he showed a finger technique which I am very grateful for. In another piece I was wondering what would be the dynamics after a hairpin. And he explained it as if reading my mind 🙂

*Nothing wrong with trying to make money on YT. I am aware that being a professional musician does not pay very well.
