Hello, everybody! I found a teacher whose style is a very good fit for me, and here's my new and improved practice list (still finishing Alfred AIO #1): The Entertainer (we're polishing the last 5%); Amazing Grace (it's about 80%; I can play it, but it needs polishing); Over the Rainbow (I have only just started - the whole bass is a head-scratcher right now, but as usual, I'm up for the challenge); C Major and A minor harmonic scales (Alfred's Scales, Chords, Arpeggios & Cadences) parallel motion in octaves with crescendo/diminuendo); and lastly, we're taking tiny easy pieces from An Introduction to Classics to Moderns (I also have #17 and #27) with the copious free time I'll have left over after doing all the other stuff. As soon as I'm "cleared" with something, I'll record it and put it up in Member Recordings. I don't receive lots of supportive feedback in other areas of life, so when my teacher praised me for being able to get myself to "early intermediate" just by polishing all the pieces in my method book, I very nearly cried on her piano.
Also, Amazing Grace reminds me of my father, who died in 2021, so playing it made me a little weepy because my feelings met the terrible conjunction of my father-in-law passing away suddenly a few weeks ago. It's been sad and difficult times, and thank goodness for piano practice. It's absorbing enough to help me mostly put my cares aside for a while each day.
