As an owner of a piano store, I wanted to share an experience I had years ago that addresses a response someone had made in the "piano sales person" thread. It seemed appropriate to share it here.
Anyway, one afternoon a gentleman came into our front door. He was wearing dirty overalls and a flannel shirt underneath. He had work boots on and had obviously been doing some dirty work that day. I spent some time chatting with him, learning more about what he enjoyed in pianos, and going from instrument to instrument. At the end of about 3 hours, he ordered a custom designed Bösendorfer model 225.
Then he shared with me that he had first gone to a competitors place who sold another high end piano, but the salesperson there (in his words) gave him the bum's rush. Before he left he turned around and told this person that he is making a mistake and he could buy and sell every piano in his store if he wanted to. The response was laughter.
Since then this same person has bought 2 high end digital pianos, purchased an Imperial (search PW for Stockton Imperial) ands bought several high end smaller grands, verticals, and a few digital pianos for himself and his family.
So I have learned (and train my staff) to never judge a client by appearances.
