Moving Target: pedals! Please help!

OK, so things are going well. Notes are falling in place, no stops, but then THE PEDAL HAS MOVED AWAY FROM ME.

Or it’s cattywompus!

Ugh. OK, I have some 7 lb doorstops I seldom use. I’m going to put one on it. See how that works.

I’d considered putting velcro (the loop end) on the bottom, but the kind of carpet I have is cut, not looped, so that doesn’t work.

A thin board, maybe 6-8" wide, 18"-ish long.
Attach some non-slip under-rug pad on the bottom of the board with some glue.
Velcro the pedal to the far end of the board.
Put your foot on the near end of the board.
Between the velcro, non-slip pad, and the weight of your foot pressing the board to the floor, that should hold it.

I had this made for me years ago. It has been a godsend. The surface was a bit too smooth so I bought some of that tape which has a rough exposed surface side and that has worked. The heal of my right foot is on the rough tape.

There is a slot in the piece of wood at the back where the cable exiting the pedal unit comes out.

Very nice! And also protects your hardwood floors. Did you wear your golf cleats to play (noticing scrape on board.)

I don’t know if this is my final solution as it might get tiresome to carry one of these up and down stairs when the weather cools and we can sit on the deck(we have french doors and an inside screen. Spouse wants to be certain the door doesn’t crash around in the wind. I say that if it’s that windy, we won’t be out there anyway and might as well close the doors. 🤷‍♀️

I have a non-slip pedal mat like this one:

It goes under the bluetooth pedal I use for turning pages on the tablet, and I always take it with me when I play a concert.

If you get one of these, make sure it's long enough - at least 45cm - so that there's room for the pedal unit and your foot.

That's my solution in action. Worked great at my outside gig recently, even on the park pavillion's concrete floor. I don't put the expression pedal on it because it's super heavy, has a great tread, and my foot goes more on top of it than in front of it. I kept my board a bit wider than necessary in case I want to add something new / different.

Got a different cover to ‘cat vomit proof’ my keyboard. They’ve been known to sit atop it. Haven’t yurped on it for 10+ years, but there’s always a first time. It’s a pretty simple bit of fabric that is liquid resistant. The other one was your typical stretchy black stuff with the draw cord. Useless for cat vomit. Fine for dust.

I have some light duty command strips I’ll put on each end/stick to the keyboard and the cover to hold it in place.

Don’t mind me I was inspecting your Roland. Nice! What model is it? Do you enjoy the built in pianos, or do you use other VSTs/computer along with it?

Hey, that's my Roland on your screen! 😃

That's a Roland Fantom-07. I bought that this past year to use with my garage band. It's not for particularly pianistic stuff, so I haven't explored the piano sounds very deeply.

When I've had occasion to play more pianistic music out and about, I've used my Roland RD-2000 EX and my Korg SV2, both of which have nice DP actions and lots of good sounds to choose from. I do have Pianoteq with a handful of pianos, but I haven't used it in any serious capacity, just once in a while for fun.
