Philip Glass (https://philipglass.com/) composes piano and instrumental music which is usually labeled as minimalist. It;s important to note that Glass is taken seriously in the classical music world (unlike most of the composers in this thread, although hopefully this is changing). And since it has always seemed to me that heās treated as a classical composer, I wasnāt originally going to include him in this thread, because I really donāt think Glass is āpost classical,ā just āclassical.ā But itās very interesting to listen to his music and think about how his compositions differ from, for example, Einaudi, who also is sometimes called minimalist. In my opinion, a key difference between Einaudiās āminimalismā and Glassās minimalism is the accessibility of the melody, with Einaudiās music being much more melody-forward. That being said, I donāt know as much about Glassās music as I do about Einaudiās, so please take all of this with a grain of salt!
Difficulty: most of his compositions, and collection of etudes, should be considered advanced.
The most well-known piano works by Glass are his Metamorphosis set, which includes Mad Rush. If anyone knows of a shortened arrangement of this, please share it, Iād like to have a score for this that was about 3 minutes. I donāt think my hands would like me if I tried to play all 13 minutes of this)
One thing I want to learn more about Glass are his piano etudes, which Iāve read he composed for his own practice. So here is a video of the whole set. (The pianist is not Glass but Jeroen van Veen)
