I heard I didn't place 🙁
Will get jury feedback today, I suspect they really disliked my Polonaise which is definitely not a standard interpretation. I've been applying the new research on hairpins as an expressive (expansion/compression) rather than exclusively dynamic marking for Romantic works, so I am accelerating during the big chords at the beginning. Plus I only found a single recording that actually takes it Allegro Appassionato! The "standard" is far slower than Allegro, and not terribly Appassionato, in my opinion. Unfortunately I think I'll have to stop playing it for future competitions. But I hope they liked my Mazurka. Again, my own interpretation. I've never heard anyone actually apply a Mazurka rhythm to the middle section, but once I did it, it made so much more sense!
Anyway, I'm glad I found out last night so that I don't have to be in anticipation today! Looking forward to the jury feedback and listening to all of the Gold Stream finalists today 🙂
