Simonb Here's a recent (7th March) performance of my own composition Moondream #9. A live event, so I was more nervous than I have been for quite a while. The title was originally a joke (how pretentious am I!) as it didn't have a name, but it's stuck. A little less pedalling at the jam out prior to the last repeat of the theme is the obvious fault, but in the heat of the moment I got excited! Cheers
ShiroKuro Simonb that is a very interesting composition, and nicely played! What is the keyboard sound youโre using?
Simonb Thanks ShiroKuro It starts with a basic Fender Rhodes sound, then on the repeat of the main theme (at 1:40 ish) and all the way to the end that sound is augmented by a phaser effect. That phased sound is one that Richard Tee used a lot, perhaps most famously when he was the keyboard player in Paul Simon's band. He was a great US session Pianist (from 70s to the 90s). Cheers
ShiroKuro Simonb basic Fender Rhodes sound, then on the repeat of the main theme (at 1:40 ish) and all the way to the end that sound is augmented by a phaser effect. Thanks for explaining that! Spine mentioned the Doors, and it does have that sound doesnโt it!
diretonic Acoustics/(amplification?) aren't optimal but composition and playing sound really good Simon.
Simonb Thanks diretonic The Korg SV2S has it's own speakers, but the sound was mainly coming from a PA, which I had no control over. As I mentioned, I certainly over-pedalled, which I don't think helped, and I hadn't played much in the preceding few months because of my foot. That's enough excuses! Cheers
diretonic Simonb The higher runs you're playing, remind me of Ray Manzarek on Riders on The Storm, taking me back over 50 years - a big hit at the time, he also used that phased Rhodes. I don't know if he was the first but the sound did the rounds like a virus, everyone buying effects pedals to mimic it.
Sophia Congrats on the live performance, Simon! What a lovely, dreamy title for your dreamy, lovely piece ๐ You are truly an all rounder - jazz, classical, dreamy compositions, you name it ๐
Simonb Hi ShiroKuro Apart from "Light My Fire" I'm really not that familiar with The Doors. For me it'll always be the Richard Tee sound. Maybe he got from Ray Manzarek. Cheers
