Apple Vision Pro for Piano — Surprisingly Promising

I may not be the target demographic for this, but a couple of things piqued my interest with Simply Piano for Apple Vision Pro.

Overlaying finger numbers on the fingers was a pretty neat idea and I can see this being helpful for beginners.

Performing in front of an audience! The guy demo'ing this said he had goose bumps playing in front of the simulated audience. For someone like me who has a debilitating case of stage fright, I can only imagine the possibilities here of practicing in front of a variety of friendly or hostile virtual audiences.

All in all, it's great to see new ideas in action!

I saw a video where a conservatory in England had a simulated audience (Royal College of Music, maybe?). Amazing that it can now be available to the public!

Edit: at a very hefty price tag, oof!

What? You mean you haven't always wanted to play piano while riding a sleigh down a mountain? 🙂

But you're right, it's promising! The relevant bit is at about 5:15. It shouldn't be long before they can put AI "people" in the background. But why stop there? In another few years you'll probably be able to add images from your personal photos. Can you imagine a recital in front of hand chosen audience members? Whom would you choose?

Brilliant, really. With current technology, it seems like it should be fully possible to bring something like this to the mainstream.

twocats We're just talking about Simply Piano so far, they don't target serious musicians as far as I know... but let's hope they see the potential.

If someone develops a personal version of the piano lab performance simulator it would be pretty amazing. Like, you could turn on an option for people coughing or causing a disruption to help make you nervous 😆
